I like it, at 1500 it seems tight and fairly brutal. It's an odd point level with other players trying to squeeze in Knights and Deathstars. Possible another Tervigon and split the Gaunt squads and drop the mawloc? Any reason for the single mawloc? What missions do you think you'll play?

What Hive Fleet is it painted after? Or custom scheme? Curious how the Dimachaeron looks

Can't split the gaunts since they are required in a mob of 30 for the troops tervigon.

Mawloc is probably insurance against invis or gunlines.

I would love to suggest a pod for the dimarchareon, but I don't think you can shave enough points without dropping the mawlock or the tervigon. 20 points from the 'loc, 5 from the Tervigon, drop the malanthrope down to a venom and you're still 10 points shy of a pod, so you'd have to ditch e grubs on one of the flyrants, and I think it's just too big of a sacrifice.

I think that I'd use the spare 25 points from the spinebanks, toxin sacs and toin spike on either crushing claws and egrubs on the tervigon or using it to cram some devourers onto the gaunts, but that's pretty minor points shuffling. Overall, looks like a fairly solid list as long as you don't expect the Dima to survive for more than a round or 2, but I'd be worried that he's just going to eat all the heavy fire as soon as your flyrants are in the air. See how you go, but I'd be thinking about using a dakkafex in the same role. The points you save and the couple you've got floating around would be enough for a pod too without making any real sacrifices.

Good advice!

Yep, trimming off the extras can free up some points, but not many...here's where I suggest you look at:

1) Electro grubs of the Terv
2) Hive Commander, so you can Outflank the Terv...you don't Have to, but being able to affects the foes options.
3) A Brood of Hormies to screen your Dima, add the Malanthrope, and you give your self some decent Cover.

Good luck!

Thinking of starting Tyranids, with this exact list. Would it be competitive and/or effective?

Well, at 1500, Three Winged Tyrants its a little OP for non tourney...it depends on your "meta" though. It also lacks OS, that may or may not matter. Dima is a hit or miss MC, like most all our MCs Screen it, or Pod it and it gets more likely to make contact...once it does
