It's not just bears. I remember at one point, due to my party setup. (PC was a low level inquisitor and Imoen was useless) I hit an unwinnable miniboss in Friendly Arm Inn. This was required to progress the story. Due to playing it as I felt the character would, and NOT hiring the random 2 evil dudes in the middle of nowhere, I got punished.

That was no doubt the magic user who meets you as you're about to enter the inn, and targets your character with a Magic Missile spell which never misses, and does enough damage to kill whoever it's aimed at.

The solution, I found, was contained in Imoen's inventory. She comes with a Wand of Magic Missiles which (if you're careful) will allow you to do unto him before he does unto you.

There's something to be said about Bear Arms in there but I'm drawing a blank today.

But in all seriousness, you should approach any threat in the baldur's gate games like its an extinction-level event. Until you know what you're up against by sight. And even then, look twice! Sneak one kobold commando into a batch of regulars and those flaming arrows will wreak havoc left unchecked...

I'm fairly confident in saying that some of the, totally random, encounters in those games are virtually unwinnable without proper preparation beforehand and potentially off-screen spell shenanigans. Let alone possible if you just blunder into them.

The wizard outside the friendly arm is bad, he'll blow you up with magic missiles. I realize that if you're attempting to RP the encounter as if you have no knowledge that he's about to rain down death upon you... that may be an issue. If Imoen has any chance to sneak at all (remember to stand in shadows to avoid the penalty!) just keep trying it till she succeeds and keep trying to get a sneak attack until she actually gets one successfully. Your MC being a tanky class should be a benefit. It's an icky fight with just two, gotta get a lucky hit or two in while he's casting.

And if you don't like him... well let's just say that isn't the only potent merc/bounty hunter you'll have to deal with.

Bears are rapey, too, on top of being godless killing machines. Ever hear about someone getting killed by a bear in the woods? That bear had its savage, godless way with that poor sucker first....

Speaking of murderously rapey bears, met one in PoE. I was level 3, it was level 5. Killed everyone in my party in, like, twenty seconds.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Went back to Skyrim after following a LPer on the Youtubes that modded the gak out of it. I remember why I loved this game and even more so that the mod's I've installed make the game so much better.

Additionally, I'm still eking along in Diablo 3, awaiting the arrival of patch 2.3 and all it's glorious Not-the-Horadric-Cube-ness.

Tried out Stalker Online today. ...What a load of crap. To be expected I suppose, but it is surprising how terrible some games can be.

Ack, and I don't know where in Russia their EU server's located, but it must be in Siberia for how high my ping was.

Been playing Planescape: Torment lately. I'm actually surprised at how much I'm enjoying the story. I don't know why, it just keeps me really immersed.

Also tried the first Fallout game. Died from giant moles 20 minutes in. Hmm... this may be a bit difficult.

Yeah, its really good.
Wait till you get to the end; it will blow you away.

Combat in the early Fallout games were pretty difficult.
Black Isle rpgs tend to focus more on dialogue than shooting.
Partly because you can't go full rambo like in the newer games.

What can change the nature of a man?

Considering going back and playing the MMORPG Defiance. Its been like two years since I originally played though and have no idea what the player base or game's like now. IIRC it wasn't that amazing a game to begin with.

I play TR on the Miller server, but I also have one character for each of the other two factions.

My favourite class is the light assault. Favourite tactic is sitting in a tree or on a ledge with a suppressed carbine and picking people off, just generally trying to be a nuisance. Haven't yet saved up the certs to go Sundy hunting with C4.

Also like to camp on hillsides or cliffs with my Prowler with zoom optics and anchored mode, trying to pick enemy tanks and sunderers off from a km away (sort of like artillery). Vanguards scare me gakless, I never seem to win a 1 on 1 close range fight. Are Prowlers generally weaker?

Oh, and I have to open the side of my pc tower up to let it stay cool when I play.

Vanu for me, all the way. I like MAX when I can get it, but I main Infiltrator otherwise.

I'd love to learn how to really use the Scythe, but my computer/internet connection has these tiny little stutters going that make precision flying basically impossible.

I played with an ACOG or equivalent scoped slug-shooting shotgun on several characters. Still kills dudes pretty fast up close and once you master the heavy bullet drop it becomes kind of a battle rifle with reasonably impressive hits to kill at even long ranges.

Whooooooo Thunk! Gah, wtf? Whooooooo THunk! Gah almost dead wtf? Whoooo Thunk.

But really, the most fun was playing with the fly-by-wire AA turret they gave to engineers. If you could get a precise strike you could oneshot infantry with it, or snipe tanks potentially from outside of their draw distance

I liked LA a lot but I think I did better with medic, they just get better guns.

I like the speed and maneuverability of the Light Assault.

I like to duck and weave, fly up over a wall, pick someone off. Jump off to avoid retaliation, fly sideways below the ledge and pop up behind them, pick off a couple more. If someone surpises me from behind, I can drop off a ledge, fly around it and get behind them.

If I come face to face with someone, I launch myself over their heads spin round and shoot into their backs.

The engineer is very fun too - that AT turret is insane. Plonk it down on a mountain and chip away at the enemy armour from km's away. it isn't very good to start with, but when you upgrade it to have a faster cool down it can do quite a lot of damage.

I like to keep a Skyguard with me, so I can suppress enemy aircraft too.

LA is great fun and the tactical flexibility is wonderful, it's just that there were many times that I would have just been better off with the overshield and stronger gun of the heavy, or more supportive by being a medic.

Ahh, skyguard, I think I may have either stopped before implementation or just never had the certs to acquire.

I usually spent my vehicle credits on mosquitoes and flashes, and more often than not ended up planting C4 on them to use them as guided missiles

Although... the infiltrator wraith flash, or really just running people over with the flash in general is soooo fun.

God I hate flying mosquitos...And air vehicles in general. I never last more than a few seconds in combat.

I'm good at shooting them down though.

Flying in that game was always really hard, but I've never been into flight simulators. I know some people seem to like joysticks for it but I just get one up in the air to fly between bases or to kamikaze one unlucky target

Flight would be much, much easier if they'd just allow you to assign the Yaw (side to side) controls to the mouse, putting the roll on the A and D keys instead.

Also, gotta make sure you rebind your 'eject' key when flying to something other than the 'E' button. That's an important one.

I've been playing Fallout New Vegas again, never finished it, b/c the game freezes too often, Camp McCarron gets frame dip into the single digits. I really hate Fallout 3 and love Fallout New Vegas. I'm glad I played New Vegas before 3, b/c I never would have bought NV if I'd played 3 first. The best thing about 3 was the Hellfire armor. The this-gun-is-clearly-better-than-that-gun in 3 was lazy, the world was terrible;where did the kids in the kid city get their new kids from? It was thrown together bad storytelling to me(lol vampires).

I love ED-E, the best companion ever.

Been playing Kingdoms of Amalur, the story, world and dialogues are the only things keeping me playing. Suffers all the bad RPG weaknesses, slow start/easy to over level. The enemies are interesting at least; the devs did try.

For what the games offered, both flawed, I prefer Dragon's Dogma over Skyrim. Skyrim isn't fun, did not offer anything more than sightseeing, 'bad guns' magic and no enemies worth fighting.

In truth, I'm about ready to cut the gaming cord, probably after Fallout 4. I can see me getting the new Nintendo Console tho'

Like all xcom campaigns once you have full titan armor, some firestorms, vets and full plasma weapons then you become seriously hard to stop esp. with multiple upgrades on everything. I became somewhat reckless even for the past few days (in real life) when playing that game.

So to sum up everything i beat impossible ironman, the xcom 2 devs are making up excuses and i now need something else to play.

Congrats!

Mostly being bored all day every day and using video games as my only sole entertainment. I'm also still in some shock with warhammer fantasy becoming 'Age of Sigmar'. Should also probably go back to school to help meet some fine ladies ;P. Education would help as well and getting more friends at the school as well as a possible better job in the future. My income from my job and the govt isn't enough and rent only increases. Basically i've been priced out of warhammer anyway.

---------

More on topic to the thread i have been playing 'Endless Legend'. This game is very beautiful both in aesthetics and in music. The story is interesting and the factions are fun. Honestly i wish somebody would at least make a story for the 'endless' series even if it was web comic based.

I've also been curious about getting into the 'shadowrun returns' games again.

I also don't know if there are any video games on it but man would i ever love to get more into Judge Dredd. It seems like a very fun comic to get into and any games related to it sound great. I kind of wish i could play the tabletop for that game but i dunno where i'd find people to play it with.
