Something bothers me about seeing Death Guard painted in such a way as to show chipped paint on their armour.
Isn't it supposed to be ivory-grey unpainted ceremite? So what's with the paint chipping effect?

Underlayer? Maybe it's silver underneath?

'Ceramite' could be some kind of layered composite, or power armour polished to a specific finish might be a different colour when it gets scuffed/chipped.

Ceramite is basically formed of metal compounds and alloys, etc. So if a DG marine got shot or scraped in battle the shinier metals underneath the upper layer could be revealed. I play DG and this annoyed me for a while too.

But metals hitting metal always leave some of its Color, like if you hit a car with another car some of the Color will stay on the car you hit. And since ammunition Shells would be metal isnt it okey for those chipings to be metal colored?
For example, i use dryad bark for the chipings so a dark Brown to make the chippings look rusty.

But Ceramite is a ceramic/metal composite - the clue is in the name. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Ceramite I always thought that was why the Death Guard were off-white and not shiny metal - because their armour is ceramic, and off-white is the 'base' colour. I also like the idea of Iron Warriors actually having to paint their armour silver.. Totally agree that the chips could be layers of the composite material chipping off and exposing a different-coloured layer, though.

Yeah the DG/IW thing has always bothered me. BOTH are written about as not painting their armor in the HH novels, or "the bare metal of his armor" is mentioned. So how come they look different?
I always assumed that there's a factory finish coating that the DG armor gets, and that the IW just don't get this.
