I recently purchased the FW "Legion Champion & Master of Signal" set, mostly because I was interested in the Champion model.

Now that I've collected my parcel, I realise that the Master of Signal is supposed to be wearing a very odd, elongated helmet. I've dug around the internet for information why he should be wearing this type of helmet, but all I know is that the model is based on the Rogue Trader Sensor miniature.

Because the helmet really doesn't appeal to me, and because I was planning to use him in a 40k command squad, where his communications equipment would look immensely cool, but serve no particular purpose (as per current rules), I'm likely to replace the helmet with a conventional one (possibly crested). I would be very happy to know why the helmet looks that way, even though I don't expect I will be using it.

My guess is that it has a radio and forms of communication and stuff. He is a Master of Signals after all. He likely has part of logistics and planning, and I do think have my book on me but doesn't he have an orbital Bombardment of some sort too?

The shape of the discs on his helmet immediately reminded me of the huge disc on AWACS planes, which makes sense as it is used to coordinate attacks and act as a radar system. Similar to the Master of Signals.

Really, one of the bad things about this head, is that it doesn't fit well in the opening where it's supposed to go.

The huge protruding part presses against the backpack, pushing the head forward, only allowing it to tilt forward, but never letting the neck part of the head go fully into the neck hole.

The marine wouldn't be able to lift his head or turn it to look in other directions. Then imagine the added weight, all of it resting on your neck. It's a pretty bad design.

I don't think it's a good idea to put powerful radar systems into a helmet. It looks like some sort of grimdark mickey mouse cap.

Furthermore, I'm trying to imagine having that much in the way of radiation from the radar/radio system right next to your head...

In the fire service one of our boats has a lightweight radar device on top of it, and it is highly recommended that people do not stand in front of it when it is on.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.
