As the title suggest, I need help starting imperial guard. They are an army I've wanted for quite a while, but I decided to take tau as my most recent army instead of imperial guard as in my mind I find them a little better looking, and a little better suited to my playstyle(they are my second faction) Now that I still have an interest in them, I have decided to take them as my third collection, but I don't know how I will do it. My budget is around £250 for them, and I aim to get around 1000pts worth of models with this. Most stuff I can get for 20% off from my FLGS, which means more stuff

Anyway, does anyone have any ideas?

In terms of deals, the Genestealer Neophyte boxes are actually somewhat cheaper than their counterpart IG boxes (the best being the Armoured Claw box is a great way if you want Vets in a chimera, which is a tried and true troops staple). Other than that there's also the Start Collecting Box, which gives you a HQ model (the commissar can be used as a lord commissar), some more troops and a Leman Russ. This should be a rather solid start to an army, but it's not specialized in any field so you might find it wanting at times.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Thanks for the quick response Mecha,

I was thinking of getting two start collecting boxes, but never thought of the armoured claw. I will have a look at it. This is a good surprise as I'd never used a mechanised play style, but I've never got round to it with my tau.

The start collecting box is better than most of the boxes they've released, but i'd strongly suggest you wait until the actual christmas bundles come out - if they do the Cadian Defence force again you'll be saving upwards of £30 and have pretty much the most viable army you can have with pure IG.

Some people find the idea that other people can be happy offensive, and will prefer causing harm to self improvement.

Never knew Christmas bundles did come out, I don't go to gw or look on the website much. I was thinking the defence force would be the best option, but it has been taken down. Thanks

Last year certainly there were quite a few big bundles which there's every reason to believe will happen again. In particular there are 4 more big box sets slated for release, but we don't yet know what's in them.
