I made up a small army I want to try, I don't have a lot of money and I'd like to stick to the start collecting box, so yeah here's the list

Leader: Exalted Hero of Chaos with a Battle Standard 80

Battleline: Chaos Knights 10 (Glaives) 400

Tactics: The Chaos Knights will charge and wreck crap while the Lord of Chaos will use his command ability to summon dudes and maybe catch up

Building bigger: in the distant future I want to add Dragon Ogors to my army since I love the models, I also want to use a lot of Calvary and horses and stuff

You might be looking at an older warscroll for the Lord of Chaos as the current one does not have those rules anymore. Of course, you can still use the old scrolls if it's okay with your opponents.

Also, if you intend to play matched play pitched battles, you can't summon new units beyond what points you already allocated.

If you're sticking with the start collecting boxes, you'll have around 600 pts with what's already in the box, and if you are buying two, that's enough for 1000 pt games already. Dragon Ogors are not battleline in a mixed chaos army so you will be needing the warriors anyway so it all works out.

Yeah I'm using the old outdated rules for this, since it's free. I decided to switch out the Chaos Lord for a Exalted Hero with a Standard

All the unit and character warscrolls are free though.
And you will find alot of people won't play against outdated scrolls as they had alot of quirky rules.

I would use the new chaos lord instead of exalted bsb. (you will be more likely to find opponents)
Give him mark of Slaanesh for the run and charge thing, goes great with the knights (also mark of slaanesh). It plays just like a waaaaagh in 40k that way. Also that unleash the daemon ability for his weapon has saved the day on many occasions for me.

Furthermore he is a laugh as you do not need reinforcement points for the change into Daemon Prince as you replace a still living model. They only specify reinforcement points as new units added (which is not the case, ability says replace, not "set up") or to replace units that have died (which is not the case either he still lives)

I upgraded this list to 1000 pts vanguard with a unit horses or warriors (whatever i feel like) and a manticore (I use the sorcerer because I like the model, but most people will opt for the melee bomb). and adding battalion Godsworn champions of ruin for the extra pile in and attack in the hero phase. Pretty hard and fast list that has won me many battles.
