I've been collecting numerous armies for some time now, I have a few that I play regularly, but several that I've acquired through trades. I'm trying to collect numerous armies. so when my nephews come over they have an army they can play. They love the game, but no good place to play at home. So I'm trying to collect good solid 'loaner armies' that others can play, without them being too gimped or overpowered. But learning all the rules for each army, and trying to develop a solid force for each can get a bit overwhelming. I have the Kill Team rules as well, so some games have been using that, but sometimes they like to play larger 2000-3000 pt games. So any help with a good solid loaner army ranging from kill team to 3000 pts for each army would be helpful.

To my mind you'd want to look for ease of painting (for yourself), ease of play (for people who don't get a lot of practice), and relatively simple rules (so learning them isn't that much of an issue); Space Marines and Necrons are probably the best options (both can also do interesting things when scaled down to Kill-Team).

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

You're in the driving seat here so I suggest you drive.
Will you be playing with one of the loaner armies or will you be bringing your roflstomping tournament list?
With complete control I would sit down with your armies and carefully try and balance them and the scenarios to match, even if that means a miss match in points.
It's really case by case depending on armies and skill levels of players.
You should be able to tweak most of your collection by adding a few core items to each race.

When I've made up spare armies in the past to loan out I've normaly aimed at 1 each of the specials so HQ fast attack elites and heavy support then filled the rest of the army out with troop choices ( and where you can put one in a transport).

this normally avoids to much over powering and covers most if not all of the game mechanics for learning with.

alternatively a friend of mine swears by the old method of 50% of the points on troops and 50% on everything else

4th company 3000pts
3rd Navy drop Command 3000pts air cavalry
117th tank company 5500pts
2000pts

Mostly I am looking for army composition ideas. most of my younglings don't have the money to get into the game, and each like different armies. I eventually want to get a 3k army for each major faction, that is hopefully scale-able from Kill Team on up. So I'm looking for ideas on what models to focus on for each army. I get they are mine, but as I said, I'm looking for lists that are fun to play, yet still win-able for most newer players regardless of faction. I most likely will add models down the road, I'm just trying to get ideas on where nest to start,

As for my army, my primary is a 16,000 pt Space Wolves army that has a little o everything, but I don't play tourny lists. In fact I only use them to stay away from them. Persoanlly I find the most fun when playing 'under-dog' lists.
