Hi folks, new here, aside from a lot of lurking, and I'm newly back into 40k (long time fantasy player) with a question.
Having taken third place at armies on parade and a best army nomination at the Red Thirst campaign weekend with my shiny new harlequin/Eldar army, I've finally decided to get some 'centrepiece' type models in the hopes that my painting can do them justice, hopefully with this years Xmas bonus... we shall see!
I'd like to be able to field whatever it is I get, at least occasionally, and have picked up IA11v2 for the rules. Most of the games I get are in Warhammer world events, so comp isn't really an issue... there was, after all, a reaver titan in one army, and a warhound in another at the campaign I'm just back from!
I'm currently wavering between the Revenant, Scorpion and Lynx as the main purchase, with an eye to rounding up the purchase to the free packaging mark with an Avatar, Hornets and/or Warp Hunters. I'm not as interested by the Cobra, but if it's a significantly better unit then I could be swayed.
Current models I have are 3 Crimson Hunters, and enough Harlequins to field a full Cegorach's Revenge, with Starweaver dedicated transports, and a feeling that I want to increase my collection over the next couple of years...
So, please, what is dreadful to use, or dreadful to be across the table from, what's going to rot on a shelf for want of games, etc?

The big nasty toys are probably not going to see much play. There aren't that many Appoc games in a year and most players do not enjoy fighting against a titan in a low point game. But your local gaming group might be somewhat different.

All of the Craftworld Eldar Forgeworld units are playable, and most of them are extremely powerful (like most Craftworld units).
From my own playing experiences, Warp Hunter and Lynxes are ridiculous, just deleting whole units in one go. The special Wraith Knight is really neat, and both weapon load outs are worth considering. Both kinds of Titan are very good, though only the small titan is cheap enough that you might actually be able to use it in normal game. The Pulsars are the best weapons on the titans because Strength: D is a very badly balanced rule, but the vibro cannon on the little titans are decent.
I wouldn't want to play with or against any of those units on a regular basis, though if your play group is okay with regular Wraith Knights they should be okay with the Forgeworld one too.
Hornets are really good, but not brokenly so. Really they're just too cheap with Pulse Lasers, but they're not too bad to play against. Shadow Spectres are fun and useful but merely 'good' instead of 'too good.' The Wraithseer is a beast and really difficult to kill because it's an Independent Character - it's good but expensive, and it make Wraithblades worth taking as a bodyguard.
I've never use or played against the Wasp walkers, the flyers, or the super heavy tanks so I can't comment with authority on them but they all look like good units to me.

The flyers suffer from having rules/prices written for 4e in the modern age, the Wasp is amusing, effective, and fun, and the superheavy tanks are competitive but not excessively so. If you're going to run any of them in a normal non-silly/tournament environment I'd look at Hornets and Wasps. If you see Reaver Titans on the table you shouldn't have too much of an issue plonking down any of the superheavies; the Lynx definitely has the nicest model, though I tend to favour the Revenant from a gameplay perspective since it can outshoot the other two point for point and can run around kicking things in emergencies.

The lynx with Sonic lance would have been nice, shame they don't sell it at the moment!
Sonic or Pulsar for a revenant?
Or save the LOW slot for other things?

I have a Revenant and have to say hes never seen much action.
Be wary of your local gaming group and how they view LoWs / Apoc level units.

Revenant and hornets. I have both and while I've never used the hornets the revenant I try to bring whenever there's an apoc game going on. Given it's power I'd really say don't ever bring it to anything under the 2-2.5k level.

Pulsar if you see other Titans frequently, Sonic Lance if you don't see Titans but you're still confident your opponents have the tools to kill a Revenant if you put it down.

In the meta of SPESS MUREEEN formations and shenanigans, most eldar titan level stuff is fine. Hornets are amazing, and warp hunters are quite good, but the hornets are so damn mobile while bringing the heavy weapons too. For the big yous I love the sonic lance grav tank but the cobra does have a huge D cannon on it, so it can be better if you want some big blast pancakes flying around.

Like others have said Hornets are very very good, and costed more or less correctly points wise (the Pulse Lasers should maybe be a little more expensive)
The majority of the tanks are a bit glass cannon but also prone to causing unfun due to the assorted D-guns just removing vast amounts of the enemy, if your local group isn't okay with that they will spend a lot of time on the shelf
The Revenant is most likely winner of the 'redonkulus even by Eldar standards' prize it'll just flat out murder armies, although I'd imagine as a painting / modelling project it would be quite rewarding
The Avatar model whilst a little old skool is a good size compared to the diddy little version GW makes

I have a warp hunter and two hornets, thoroughly recommend both. Stunning models, good performance on the table, and I've never had an opponent take issue with me using them.

People who have a lynx / revenant... given that the new rules for the revenant allow for one of each weapon, how feasible do you think buying the sonic revenant and pulsar lynx, and switching over one of the weapons between the two? They look broadly the same size to me?
