Crushing Black Templar Crusader Pilot

Not so much for the rules element, I have rather fallen in love with the idea of a cataphractii terminator captain for my Black Templars.
As I see it, I have the option of buying the forge world 'Legion Praetors' set, the GW 'Space Marine Heroes' set, or a set of cataphractii terminators.
I really want to give him bald-with-beard head from the sternguard squad box (as that is what I have on my artificer armor captain), so being able to fit a space marine head in without too much hacking away would be real nice.
To complicate things even more than is necessary, I would Ideally like to keep his equipment fairly Templar-y, so if whatever you can recommend has some kind of medieval weaponry, or some way that I can give my captain the kind of gear that would befit a well-respected Black Templar, I would be super grateful!

not sure but aren't there still cataphractii terminators from horus hersey box set? maybe you could convert one of those. Just thinkin it'd might be cheaper than FW

I would recommend the cataphractii set. The hero set is snap fit and you can't customize them. The FW one is pretty pricy, and like the heroes set it would require a lot of cutting for customization. On the other hand, the terminator set is fully customizable and also gives you 4 other terminators for whatever you want. It comes with lightning claws, power/chainfists, a power sword, heavy flamer and an autocannon if I remember correctly. You might have to dig through the bitz box to get that truly epic leader look for the captain. As for the head, the terminator armour head slots are filled in and the head are just the top halves because the neck armour covers the rest, so you'll have to dig out the neck area to fit the other head in.

The way the mono-pose CTDA captain goes together, a head swap should be possible, but a little rough.
Swapping out the c-melta should be fairly easy. I replaced mine with a lightning claw just by cutting the gun off and glueing the blades to the back of the hand. Swapping out the chainfist might be a little more difficult.
IIRC the CTDA squad box only had the tops of the helmets, so if you want to use a specific head would not be useful.
Can’t speak for FW.

I did a headswap for my monopose captain from BoC and it worked really smoothly. One cut to get rid of the old head and one on the other one as you don't have the rounded hole for the new head to fit in.
You could give the Chainfist-hand a Stormshield, so you could recycle the power-unit and cable of it and put a melee weapon in his right hand.

I'd suggest a grey knight terminator head and sword, and a stormshield from whichever kit you think looks best. I turned the plastic one into a grey knight grand master and it worked easily enough;

That looks awesome, not gonna lie. You could always put the Captain together and hack off both the arms, and then add what arms you want him to have.

Il have to post my conversion when I can get to a computer.
Simple head swap, weapon modified on both sides and some extra bling.
