So for those of you who are familiar with the Deathwatch Overkill rules, do you feel that the roumored 8th edition could go that way? A huge simplification?

For those of you who aren't familiar with overkill you basically have all the rules you need for a miniature in a small card where you have attacks represented as a number of dice showing the result you need (Eg. if your mini has 3 attacks and needs 4 to wound it is represented by a picture of 3 die showing the n4 face) and you basically have 3 usr and all other special rules are written on the card. Also you do not roll to hit and wound, you just roll once.

I have the feeling they could go a bit in this direction to attract new players.. but up to what point?

Personally I would like to see a dual system, one with simplyfied rules if you want to get a quick game and the more complex rules if you want some more depth (yes, i know, complexity and depth don't necessarily go hand in hand).

What are your thoughts on this?

If it does it'll drive people away enough mass, sales of 40k are down because people are worried after AoS this would destroy 40k and kill GW.

40K has been needing a top-down revision for a while, and I am beginning to suspect the various board games have been a test bed for what works (Betrayal at Calth, Deathwatch Overkill, Burning of Prospero).

I'm thinking that the final 40K we'll see will actually be a variant of the Burning of Prospero rules moreso than DO rules. Minus the d8's and d10's.

Will it fly? I dunno - it really depends on two things. Do they actually fix the games issues, and whose ready to buy into a new ruleset and codexes.

I'm extremely doubtful they'll actually fix the game's issues, and I have neither the cash nor desire to buy a whole new set of books.

It never ends well

I'm not sure DWOK is the right direction, but the Codex system needs to go. At this point its so outdated its successors are starting to be replaced.
