Way of the Fighter is an expandable card game by Benjamin Yamada that pits two fighters against one another in an arena, with a theme reminiscent of classic arcade-style fighting games. Each player manages their fighter’s movements, actions, health, and energy to achieve victory. The game is quick and involves bluffing, resource management, knowledge of each fighter's style, and sharp tactical decisions.

well the relaunch looks very similar to the original (although the goal is lower) and there is a new pledge level

so the minis are available from the start for those who want them (in combination with the full pack of game goodies)

I'm not sure relaunching three weeks before Christmas in competition with Shadows of Brimstone and Kingdom Death is such a good idea, maybe they should've waited until jan or feb?

It's (typical) poor planning by SPM.

The US election thing is totally bogus. It's not like Election Day was a surprise, nor that it was going to be contentious and drive social media.

Not that it mattered, as people were depledging on the last day, once it became clear that the game would barely fund, if at all.

Now, they're relaunching into the teeth of Kingdom Death 1.5, which is going to be *the* monster that sucks all theKS money out of this holiday season. Funny how people are clamoring to spend $1700 on a KD KS, but they won't throw $35 at this.

Seeing how KD launched, waiting until Feb would have been the best call. With X-mas shopping and so forth, this game just won't get the attention. Especially it being a "damaged" property by failing to fund the first time.

Is it me or is SDE really failing at the KS game these days. That weird bunny vs zombies KS that died on the vine, this one. If its not a chibi miniature they just cant seem to get it off the ground.

OMG, yeah, that Bunnies v Zombies thing was fething grotesque.

SPM seems to have forgotten that cute minis are pretty much the only thing that people want them to do, and they're kinda killing the golden goose by spreading themselves too thin with other random projects.

game wise I think this looks pretty solid, but the standees/minis feel tacked on to a card game in order to sell it for more money to a wider audience

perhaps at $30 per set without the bling it might work better

but we'll no doubt see

A well-made fighting game analog is something I've wanted for a while, and something about this is just failing. Maybe it's just the overall execution looks cheap, or that the characters are boring and bland, or that the use of color in their presentation flat-out sucks.

Or it could be that to get a miniatures one-on-one fighting game, they want me to spend $130, and yet still have add-on characters. No. Either go boutique and embrace the expense by making it outstanding quality, or go to market with the card game sans kickstarter, as they obviously don't need it.

It should be said that a few companies have exceptionally well-received board-game fighting-game analogs already, some of which were made by former pro-players from the FGC. The name's allude me at the moment, but I believe Sirilim wrote/published a couple, as did a few others. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful but I am 100% sure they've existed for a while.

Price-wise, compare with Brawl, by Cheapass Games: 6 decks for $52 with KS bonuses = $ 8.67/deck. This is 12 decks for $70 = $5.83/deck. So it's not a price per deck thing.

I agree that the standees/minis, dice, dashboard & other stuff just overcomplicate what should be a simple, quick card fighter. Maybe that's the real problem with this game.

But even then, if this is a dice & cards minis battle game, why can't it be more like Relic Knights? For the same reason that Ninja All Stars and Rail Riders aren't anything like any of the editions of Super Dungeon Explore - SPM just can't leave well enough alone.

Oh yeah, for $120, this isn't nearly good enough as a minis game. For $100, I can get Mythic with lots more stuff. For $200, I can get a reprint of the Kingdom Death core! Both are outstanding values by comparison.

also...the super short time frame. I don't get the IT HAS TO BE DONE IN 15 DAYS mentality.

whtas the matter with a month.....maybe they need the cash or something....

is suspect it's a factory time slot rather than cash,

ether for getting the whole thing made (or if it's in production anyway for finalising their numbers)

it would also explain the really swift re-launch with minimal alterations

Competition and campaign tactics aside, I'm yet to see/play a SPM game that had good rules.

So why exactly did they have to relaunch this? I'm guessing it wasn't doing as well as they hoped but no company would admit this, what was their excuse?

the US election was a distraction.....

possibly

it looked as if it would just fund at $30K (as opposed to $20K now), but the minis were only unlocked at $50K which is was not going to hit so it could well be there was expected to be a lot of backsliding (they'd have been able to see how many people had added cash for the minis)

Battlecon and Exceed both work very well as fighting games. Both by lvl 99 games. Exceed is a lot easier to pick up than battlecon though.

Also, this relaunch is probably doing better cause they let people purchase the figures as add-ons from the start so I can't help but think lots of people who pledged for the old one are just adding figures onto their new pledge. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the RK2 KS from SPM

Yeah, miniatures boardgaming is *the* thing. If you're going card-only on this, you're not getting the full experience, because this game is clearly a miniatures boardgame.

SJG just closed with $125k for Ogre Miniatures Set 1, about 1/6 as much as what Ogre DE pulled. If they had offered minis back in 2012...
