Subject: Mont'ka and Kauyon Formations & Rules

What formations, or any new special rules outside of said formations, are in the Mont'ka and Kauyon books for Tau? I'm a Tau player and I own a Tau codex, I can't say "the" Tau codex because apparently there are two versions(?). I don't own the Farsight Enclaves book, and I'm unable to find out what kind of formations and rules are in Mont'ka and Kauyon.
See, I've seen various reports that all the formations and rules are in the codex and Enclave supplement but I can't find anything confirming that. I've also seen reports that the Mont'ka and Kauyon stuff is only in the newest version of the Tau codex, but I can't find anything that tells me if that's the version I have or not.
I just don't know whether or not the two books contain anything that isn't already in my current codex, or in the Enclave supplement. If anyone can tell me what formations are in those two warzone books, and whether or not I already have them, that would really help. Also if possible please differentiate which formations are in, if they are in, the newest version of the Tau codex and which are in the Enclave supplement. I'm trying to find new formations for my Tau army outside of the Enclave ones, if that makes any sense.

I can't break it down exactly (away from my sources atm), but yes, there are two "versions" of the Tau codex - one published in 6th edition which is, at a guess, the one you have - it has (to my memory) no Formations in it. Likewise there was a 6th ed. Farsight Enclaves suppliment.
After that was published the first (Mont'ka?) campaign book, which included a "Decurion-style" super-detachment and clumps of Formations for the base Tau codex.
The second campaign book (Kauyon?) contained an updated version of the original Farsight rules including a new Decurion for him as well, and some more Formations.
After this, both the Tau codex and Farsight suppliment were re-published, and the new versions included all the rules from the respective campaign books. Unfortunetly the genius behind them neglected to update either of the cover arts, making it rather difficult to tell them apart.

My codex DOES have several formations and it's own detachment, the one that requires a Hunter Cadre and then an auxiliary bla bla bla etc.
Does this mean I have all the rules from Mont'ka and Kauyon in my book, excluding any Farsight stuff?

No, you have the formations from Kauyon. Kauyon also contains the data sheets for the Tau scenery.
Montka contains a load more formations which are not FSE specific plus the FSE stuff. A couple of these (riptide wing and drone net) are particularly good.

I think you end up missing the riptide wing and ghostkeel wing IIRC, they're both Mont'ka / Kauyon only. Riptide wing is a big deal if you want to play competitively, Ghostkeel wing not so much.

1d4chan Tau Tactics have a breakdown of all the formations and which sources they come from but basically Kauyon has the stuff in the 7th edition base codex while Mont'ka has the 7th edition Farsight Enclave stuff (the formations inside can be taken for either standard Tau or FSE).
If your codex has the Stormsurge in it then its the 7th edition book. If it doesn't then its the 6th edition (GW really should of used a different cover and a different name for the 7th edition book).

I've just pulled the books out to verify:
The updated Tau codex (the one that has the ghostkeel and stormsurge in it) contains everything from Kauyon except the fortifications (note that the models come with datasheets for themselves individually and Planetary Assault also contains the datasheets and the fortification networks).
FSE contains everything from Montka except for the ethereal council, the ghostkeel wing and the riptide wing.

So if I'm understanding correctly, since my codex has the Stormsurge I'm not missing anything from Kauyon except the Tidewall, which was updated in Planetary Onslaught anyways, and Mont'ka contains non-FSE exclusive formations I don't have?

I have no idea what an ECPA is.

So I presume that's a Riptide formation, since they have the Nova engines. Not something I'm interested anyways, but that's good to know.
I still need to know if there are any non-FSE formations in the Mont'ka book outside of the ones I have in my 7th edition codex (the one with the detachment and Stormsurge).

Earth Caste Pilot's Array is a Signature system for FSE that lets them reroll novas.
Mont'ka has the Dawn Blade "Taucurion"
Counterstrike Cadre (Firewarriors and Pathfinders in Devilfish)
Rapid Insertion Force (Stealths, Crisis Suits, Riptide)
Ranged Support Cadre (Pathfinders, Broadsides)
Piranha Firestream Wing (aka drone factory. Piranhas)
Ghostkeel Wing (Ghostkeels)
Skysweep Missile Defence (Devilfish + Sky Rays)
Ethereal Council (Ethereals)
Drone Net (Lots of Drones)
Riptide Wing (Riptides)
Air Superiority Cadre (Razorsharks)
The Eight (Farsight and his crew)
It also has rules for some Imperium Assasins, Baneblade varients, plus the Cadian "Guardcurion" and its assorted formations.
All of the formations can be taken as standard Tau or FSE. Dawn Blade I think is FSE only.

That's the information I needed, thanks.
Just curious though, do you have to use the Dawnblade detachment to get the Mont'ka relics?

No. FSE contains rules for making any detachment FSE.
