I am excited to get out and try the new splitting rule, however, there is no way I can find that many blue horrors, or buy that many pink horrors and paint them blue. And brimstone horrors? Omg...

Has anyone figured out another way to represent them all, besides using blank bases?

Someone had the idea of mounting two Sylvaneth Dryad heads on bits of wire floating above a base (with some GS fire) to represent Brimstone Horrors.

Should be a cheap way to get a bunch of them, and it fits them being small as they're only S1/T1.

I've got my brimstone bases all ready.

Butt mixed results on sculpting them. Trying orc/goblin heads, with sculpted flamey legs and arms. So far looks alright. Will probably get an official set and bulk out with sculpts and various monsters and gribbleys from the bits box.

Blue horors... Currently I'm thinking of using my set of last edition metal horrors as blues. I do have a bunch of blue ghouls, which could work.

I've been turning a few Kurnoth Hunters into counts-as Tzeentchian Obliterators (mostly through the inclusion of lots of greenstuff fire and a metallic paint scheme), there are quite a lot of excess little snakelike sprite critters on that sprue. I'd suggest picking some kind of small supplemental creature like that from somewhere else in the game, getting as many as you can off bits suppliers, and patch over anything that looks weird alongside your Daemons with greenstuff fire (which is rather easier to make than it sounds).

Dryad heads, goblins/grots, Skinks, and loose Rippers are the first places I'd look, but I haven't looked through everything there is and I suspect there are a lot more possibilities.

Just for the record...splitting is an old rule, not a new one. The Brimstone "level" is new I believe.

I remember it, but I think I only saw it in Warhammer Fantasy? The early 90's were a long time ago.

To make sure I wasn't crazy I just checked.

And yes, back in 2nd ed. Pink Horrors split into two Blue Horrors (and Pink Horrors were tough bastards!). However, this splitting rule was used in place of an actual daemonic aura save. So a Pink Horror had no save like other daemons, it just split instead (something I think is a great balancing fact)

Certain weapons (Daemon Weapons, D-Cannons, Wraithcannons, Vortex grenades, etc.) were so potent they did not allow a Pink Horror to split when it perished.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the suggested modelling idea for Brimstone Horrors as per the 'designers note' in the codex entry says 'each Brimstone Horror consists of a pair of Horrors that share a base'.

So, for the common unit of 11 Pink Horrors, you need the original 11 Pinks, 22 Blues for when they Split and 44 individual Horror models for Brimstones when they Split Again.

That's a suggested 77 models just for a single basic squad!

To put it another way, that's £144 per squad in your army to do it the official way!

That was me that suggested that. I got 24 heads for $10 on eBay, which was enough for 12 bases (so less that $1 per mini).
I've got mine finished and just need to get some pics up for them. I mounted them on the bit of branches that normally go behind the heads (included in the eBay purchase), thereby needing less greenstuff.

For my Blue Horrors, I simply re-painted half of my existing Pinks which were converted from Lizardmen Skinks with Dryad heads and arms. I've never liked how big the new plastic Pinks are as they are only T3, yet as big as a Marine.
I left some pink on my Blues and painted a bit of blue on my Pinks. That way when 1 Pink dies, I will reuse it + 1 Blue to create the 2 Blues, thereby reducing the number of models actually needed.

Methinks you guys should start looking for miniatures from lines like Reaper Bones etc. Find some suitably daemon-esque critter and spray em...dip em..and paint their eyes.

I think the Brimstone level is stupid and really hurts the likelihood of anyone playing these.

A new day, a new time zone.

At this point, until GW releases something nurgling sized in appropriate quantities to be used for brimstone horrors, checking out the alternatives seems to be the best idea.

I have a quick and easy setup for the blues. It's not perfect, but easy enough for anyone with any sculpting talent to undertake it (I sculpted 5 in an hour). Should still be on this front page.

They don't have to look like the official models - they're Tzeentch daemons after all, and Tzeentch is all about change and mutation.

Personally I'd raid my bits box and make a few dozen mutant monstrosities, along the lines of Chaos Spawn but smaller.

Simply proxying them with blank bases or paper cut outs is not a luxury some of us players have when some groups follow tournament guidelines

Not to mention, playing against someone with blank bases that 'are called xyz' is something many wouldn't play against either. Can't represent the unit? Play something else!
