It occurs to me that Blood Ravens are the perfect chapter to represent Blood Angels, any codex: Marine chapter, or even Dark Angels.

The connection to BAs is obvious, both are red and have "blood" in the name. As we don't "officially" know the founding chapter for BRs, you can use them as a successor chapter for any of the Chapter tactics in the Marine codex. And the Raven motif is even appropriate for DAs.

So I have always heard of players using _____ Marines as whatever codex they want, but have only seen it in person once (grey Marines)
So does anyone on Dakka A) use "whatever" Marines? or B) use Blood Ravens as a particular chapter?

I had (have) a full company of Imperial Fists. I need to clean up the paint job, and when I do so they're going to be Angry Marines. As it is I've already fielded my Imperial Fists using Codex: SM and Codex: BA. (I haven't used the models with the 7th ed codex.)

Part of the reason for going Angry Marines is to use whatever codex I feel like at the time. If Space Marines suck in 8th ed, but Chaos Space Marines are awesome... they'll probably be Chaos Space Marines that were too damn angry to do anything about the aquilas on their chest.

Mainly... I just can't stomach painting the same model over and over again with slightly different colors, but I like to try out new and (usually bad) armies. Adeptus Ambivilous is the way to go for that.

I know one lad who plays them as Iron Hands successors when he's using his deathstar, and has plans to build up a Gladius army which he'd play as White Scars. I think the Codex specifically mentions them by name as being an appropriate Chapter to use for flexi-Tactics.

I always play my Blood Ravens (which are for sale if anyone is interested) as Ultramarines. It always fit their tactical adaptability. The Ravens have always been described as a Codex-compliant chapter, so I would actually advise against using BA or DA to represent them.

1000 Tzeentch Arcanites (Pyrofane Cult - Hysh) in progress
2000 Slaves to Darkness (Ravagers)

This made me laugh as that would never happen. Chaos Marines seem pretty good now with Traitors Legion rule, but Loyalist Marines will never suck (the BA codex is a odd exception)

It really surprises me that more Marine players don't do this. I guess part of the hobby is choosing a factions background that you like and focusing on that?

Since the Blood Ravens are set up to be the showcase-all-Space-Marines force in DoW I'd expect most armies to work at some level. Might want to skip White Scars/Dark Angels (since there are no Bikes in Dawn of War) and Space Wolves (since they're the most non-Codex-Astartes of the loyalist books), but on principle I'd recommend either Ultramarines or Red Scorpions since they've got scary Librarian special characters.

Frankly I think it should be illegal to field Blood Rehvens without Drop Pods. Multiple, simmuln-tehneous and devastating defensive Deep Strikes are the hallmark of the Chapter. No Scouts either, because the Kaurava campaign did not go well.

It's been suggested that the Blood Ravens are descended from Thousand Sons who were not there for the Burning of Prospero.

I field my Blood Ravens as either Plain Jane Space Marines, or Blood Angels. Depends on how I want to run them that day.

I field me 2e Legion of the Damned army as any codex I want, so I see no issues with you doing the same with your Blood Ravens. As long as it's WYSIWYG and follow the rules, it makes no difference what codex you actually use.
