Someone explain to me why the secret chapter that's supposed to have the best of the best in equipment has no access to drop pods? Or melta, grav, or plasma for that matter. But that's another discussion .
I love the models but I play vanilla marines as well and sometimes wonder why I bother collecting them other than for the hobby side.

Edit for spelling

Because they just teleport their troops into battle, no need to waste time riding down in a can.

As for the rest, remember the Grey Knights are oriented to killing Demons most of all, so their weapons are oriented towards that, with some loss in efficiency against non-demonic forces.

For the drop pods, it's because they teleport instead. For the weapons, while there is the fluff reason, the other reason is because GW doesn't make the model.

From a fluff standpoint the GK are too specialized. They're not supposed to be the best at everything, they're supposed to be specifically the best at killing daemons. And psycannons/Incinerators are more useful for killing Daemons than melta/plasma/grav.

Who needs AA? We have Cleansing Flame (As of the current FAQ yes, it does work that way).

Ain't going to help you stomp a flying circus as much as you'd think.

Grav is largely terrible against daemons, as most daemons don't have armor. Plasma has the nice side effect of killing the wielder, so super extra special space marines get taken out of action by firing a gun. Melta is a specialized anti vehicle gun, and daemons tend not to be vehicles.

As for drop pods, they're a very particular instrument intended to start planetary invasions, which is not the task of the grey knights.

Melta is still useful for dropping higher toughness models, which demons have. Also it's worth noting that they've got chariots and walkers last I remember.

The major issue is that the current GK codex is written for an edition that never occurred and tailored to tone down the excesses of the 5e codex while being largely forgot by the design staff.

There was a leaked pre-7e BRB with turn 1 Deep Strike, charging after Deep Strike, Parry rules for swords, and multiple saves for charactors. This leaked BRB was not published, but the first codex to used those rules was: Codex Grey Knights.

Grey Knights previously lost access to Storm Shield because of their bonus to Invul saves from Nemesis Force Swords and Nemesis Force Staves. The edition the never was robbed them their the Sword and Stave bonuses as well as charactor models having the ability to role for each save available to the model rather than just the best save. Sanctuary was added as a psychic power, but GK still have to fish for it or take Stern.

As a teleporting Chapter, and a BRB rule that allowed charging after Deep Strike, GK were given the command benefit of rolling to enter on turn one. Of course, charging after Deep Strike didn't make the cut, and random arrival rolls were left in.

As to special weapons, Salvo was written in the missing BRB to be more like Rapid Fire, which made the Psycannon even more usefull than it was in 5e. Unfortunately, Salvo was publish as a garbage rule, neutering Psycannons. Psilencers were always bad, despite GW thinking they were awesome and pricing them awesomely. Incinerators were alwasy the middle child, so no changes there.
