I played some 40k back when I was younger. Sold off all my stuff after I quit playing. Now after nearly a decade, I remembered playing this game and decided I needed back in with a more mature understanding. Haven't bought anything yet but I've been reading a bit. Before I had read much though I was already preparing myself to lay down Grandfather Nurgle's plague hammer. Then I found you folks and found out CSM... uh.. isn't laying too many hammers down at all recently, but the new Legions Codex might change that. So I figured the updates to the game really changed the dynamic and were frequent enough to where I'll need a constant reference for info that's not really in-game. The meta and such

TL;DR I'm trying to figure out what army I could/should start out with and be safe playing competitively for a decent chunk of time. Like I said- I like CSM but I don't wanna get destroyed every time because I'm relearning how to play AND playing with an underdog-ish army.

Welcome! I played Nurgle for a bit last edition. It's true that the current chaos codex is limited sadly, but it isn't unplayable. Take a lot of the complaints on codexes (Codi??) with a grain of salt. No argument some builds and some codexes are more powerful, but a lot of the "This codex is useless" comments really boil down to a lack of tactics etc. Many players like the straightforward, I place my models exactly where I want them and they win style of play in the latest edition (which I admit works well with many builds like the drop pod army and riptide spams). I think a player who is good at placing and moving his units to gain local superiority can really do damage with Chaos. No harm in giving it a shot. Anyway, hope you get a chance for some research and games, you've come to the right place.

Keeping the hobby side alive!

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Man, thank you so much. Seriously, that's the good info/direction that I really needed to see before I sunk $500 into a game like this. Appreciate the welcome and hopefully I'll show y'all some sweet unclean marines pretty soon!

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka

IceAngel wrote:I must say Knightley, I am very envious of your squiggle ability. I mean, if squiggles were a tactical squad, you'd be the sergeant. If squiggles were an HQ, you'd be the special character. If squiggles were a way of life, you'd be Doctor Phil...
