'Praetor' and having been alive to know Ferrus Manus means he's 30k and pre-Inquisitors being suspicious.
Yeah that's why I asked. Didn't know whether Praetor was a 30k rank or an Iron Hands-specific rank. Mainly Eldar myself

what I was going to say is that if he's alive in
40k, there's no real way he'd have been alive during the heresy without warp shenanigans so that'd have to be built in...

You could work in a little fluff story about him coming to the attention of an Inquisitor as he's suspected of being Khornate (collecting Skulls), or coming to the attention of a Khorne Daemon Prince for the same reason.
I've got a cool idea that I want to do at some point which is start off with a standard character (doesn't matter who really) and have them fully biological. Then, after each successive time they die on the tabletop make a new version with one additional mechanical replacement (a hand, arm, leg, eye etc.) so you can see the progression of the character from new recruit to grizzled veteran. Eventually, it would end up with the character being interred in a Dreadnought and a new character would take his place
Is your dude a 30k chap or a
40k chap?
He is 30k, but I intend to play them as "counts as
40k" if I can find someone who's willing, I really really like the idea of him coming to the attention of an Inquisitor. I think when I play him as
40k I might use that as his back story. My only thing is that I HAVE to represent this on the model. Idk why, but I don't like it when models don't represent their fluff properly. E.g when someone plays an Iron Hand Captain and he has no bionics. Maybe I could say he dislikes the Inquisition because of this and is standing on a Deathwatch Shoulder PAd? For 30k I can say that he was there when the deathwatch was founded and fought alongside them. I also love the idea of a dreadnought-progression character, especially for Iron Hands. Would it be ok if I stole this?
lol
Yeah me too on the models representing fluff thing

the whole 'forging the narrative' thing is why I'm into
40k. It's the compelling background, and the ability to make that manifest in the real world on your dudes that really captures me
As for representing a feud with the Inquisition on the model I'm not sure. Are the Deathwatch allied with the Inquisition? I thought that was more the Grey Knights. If so, as you're looking at using Grey Knight bits for him anyway why not fluff it that in 30k it's his own design of armour, and in
40k it's a set of armour he 'liberated' from a Grey Knight sent to kill him? Are there any Inquisition-specific sidearms? Not overly familiar with them. If there are, you could have him with a holstered Inquisition-pistol that he also 'liberated' from the last Inquisitor sent to investigate him...
Steal away on the dreadnought idea! I've got far too many idea to do them all, and it's something that I really want to see done

just make sure you post up some pics
