Just screwed up a space marine dreadnought :( well not happy, was undercoating a bunch of models, moved on to the walker and all of a sudden the spray can decided to spray 4x thicker than usual, eating up all the detailing,it's now in a sealed tub submerged in isopropyl alcohol ,anyone know exactly how long i should leave it in there for before putting a brush to it? also anyone know if there is plastic glue in the citadel black spray? sprayed a lascannon powerpack also to thick scraped at it and it damn melted the plastic the hell,am i better of not using spray or what, never had these problems with just potted paint.

Fresh paint on plastic would take about 24 hours in Super Clean (what I use). Not sure about IA.
PS: Never in 20+ years have I seen a spray paint eat or melt plastic. You've got an issue there...

Same here, not the first time i have used said spray either, although never been applied so thick either, guess i just never shaked the can enough this time, but never have i ever seen until now spray melt a side of a model, which is why i think they have put plastic glue in the paint! that or some weird paint voodoo been cursed upon me.

Should be just seconds if you're using Isopropyl - just use a toothbrush to get all the paint off, dipping the brush back into the solution whenever the alcohol evaporates Also no glue in Citadel spray, only solvent and pigment. I recommend you give the can a good shake every time you spray if you're having problems applying it, and test the application on a bit of sprue before going to your models in the future.

This is how I use Isopropyl to paint strip - http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/697164.page Perhaps because the coat is so thick, it's having a hard time getting the paint off. Ultimately I've found that soaking a model in Isopropyl makes no difference to how easy the paint comes off, so you might want to try something else if it still isn't coming off after 3 hours. Also check the nozzle of your spray can - there could be some dried primer blocking the channel that the fresh paint comes out of.

Thanks for the info people it helped, both ease my panic and fix my model! it was about 3mm thick worse than i thought had to sorta scrape at it with a precision screwdriver, for about half hour to get the paint to come off,had no cocktail sticks, also checked the nozzle it was ok just got unlucky and never shaked it enough, panic averted
