So I've always liked 1k Sons (Strange, since I'm a Wolves Player lol) and with Wrath of Magnus it looks like its time. Anyway, my question is after a moderate amount of Googling, I haven't found anyone pairing a Greater Brass Scorpion with 1k Sons. I LOVE the model, and like the anti armour it would bring to a 1k Sons list. Has anyone used a Brass Scorpion with the Sons? Is there something I'm missing other that 1k Sons are Tzeentch and its a Brass Scorpion of Khorne? Even though as far as I've seen theres nothing rules wise preventing adding a Brass Scorpion to a 1k Sons army. I'm rambling, thanks for any info or insight.
Cheers!

I think most of us are trying the new formations and detachment which are not conducive to using forgeworld models since there aren't slots for those. It's the same thing that has kept me from getting games in with my fire raptor and sicaran as much.

IF you want to use FW toys (which look great with sons), then using a CAD is the way to go.

Now, that means not using the Grand Coven, but the grand coven isn't exactly amazing as formation detachments go.
You can still mix in formations if you want.

Although.. technically, a legal choice, I'm not convinced a Brass Scorpion gels well with TS. It has a rule that causes perils against any psyker that casts on it, which would annoy the sons no end. It does however benefit from getting grimoired, so goes well with daemons, and tzeentch daemons make very good allies to TS.

A renegade Knight is probably a better LOW. It can be added without needing a LOW slot, and is points efficient.

As Captyn Bob mentioned, the Greater Brass Scorpion causes perils in any psycher to cast on it, so there's no buffing of the underpowered (for the points) monstrosity. It's great against infantry, but will struggle against dedicated anti tank or dedicated melee units.

Not to mention that Sons are already hellishly expensive and now you're tacking another 700 points onto them for 1 model? That's more than Magnus, and it's already a struggle to get him into a workable list.

Plus the whole korne vs tzeentch thing, especially for a GBS being in with one of the most psycher heavy armies that's not tzeentch daemons.

Go ahead and try it, but I don't think you'll get the results that you're after. Who knows though, it might work in your meta if nobody else brings a knight or anything that can easily pop it before it does too much damage.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

I think your biggest problem here is that a 1k Sons detachment fully kitted out struggles to fit under 2000pts without any support from other detachments. Adding a Brass Scorpion will put you back 700pts that 1k Sons doesn't have.

I played a 4000pt game using TS and I was struggling to fit everything into the points limit.

Renegade knight made into Thousand Son. Add a custom crown-head-thing (we really need a decent name for these) and a skir...eeerm a manly, manly robe. Feel awesome.

Here's mine, made from an old staff of light.

The headcrest name is annoying me. I'm sure it's mentioned in the Thousand Sons novel. it's that same name as a bit of a pharoahs crown, but I've lost it completely.
