Remove whatever warp charge batteries he brings along to power him and the princes, the same way you beat most Tau lists by removing their markerlights before turn 2 rolls around.

Once the batteries are gone, start focusing on the prince with no buffs up and work from there, dropping a prince per turn. They're only T5 with 4 wounds.

It'd probably help if you gave some more information like what you play and what you have available, rather than just how do I [X]?

MSU like no tomorrow. Magnus needs large targets to really get his points worth. If you have no large targets for him to D or take control of, then you'll have an advantage.
After that, do as Drasius suggests: take out any ground forces, then focus on 1 DP at a time until it's dead

If you play Imperials, try and get your hands on Sisters of Silence. They provide the MSU, and they very helpfully counteract any nearby Psykers. If he's relying on Psychics for ALL of his damage output outside of melee, then he won't be able to touch you. (Plus, Magnus manifesting on a 6+ is hilarious.)

Also, if you have Sisters of Battle, try bringing some Condemner Boltguns. Auto-perils won't hurt Magnus, but they WILL put some nasty dents into the Princes.

I play Eldar mostly. Have some ideas of my own, but keen to get other thoughts.

Removing Warp Charges! HA!

Heralds guarded by pinks are nearly unkillable with shooting. That and you give him more WCs via blues. In which case, the heralds can jump out of the weakened pink horror squad and can jump into the larger blue horror squad.

'May the odds be ever in your favor' is right.

So go charge the horrors with anything stronger than a 5 man tactical squad and pop the lot of them via instability when they lose combat by 4 and test on Ld3. Also prevents them turning into blues and brims if you drop them all at once via instability was my understanding.

Besides, this guy's' playing eldar, he can take whatever he likes. Plop 2 wraithknights on the table and force Magnus to start in reserve or die before he gets to move then butcher whatever he leaves on the table so Magnus shows up with only half an army left or less.

That's a horrible strategy. What if the Eldar player goes second, or there is LoS blocking terrain large enough to hide Magnus?

No, the best way to counter Magnus is with an MSU army or ignore him and kill the other 2/3rds of your opponents army.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Ignore Magnus, slaughter what Daemon Princes are supporting him via volume of fire (scatbikes, what else). The DPs will have, at best a 3++ re-rolling 1s if he can get Cursed Earth off and if he doesn't get it off then they are basic DPs.

If he brings CSM troops in his detachment then mulch through them with volume of fire.
If he brings Pink/Blue Horror WC batteries engage them in cc with a WK to force Daemonic instability, not the best use of a WK but one of the better ways of dealing with them since they can't hurt you.

The only time you should attempt to take down Magnus is if he is on the ground with his base 4++, any other time you won't get enough wounds on him to kill him and it will be a waste of shooting.

Do nothing, you're screwed.

Just kidding. A lot of good tactics given all ready just remember flexibility, opportunity and commitment.
