This is a joke list, of a sort. The question is if it's a workable joke.

++Word Bearers Grand Host++
+Lords of the Legion+
Palanquin Sorcerer of Nurgle, w/ ML 3, Spell Familiar, Malefic Tome - 190
Same, minus Tome - 180

+Lost and Damned+
Dark Apostle w/ Scripts of Erebus - 120
20 Cultists - 90
20 Cultists - 90
15 Cultists - 70
15 Cultists - 70

+Helforged Warpack+
Warpsmith w/ Combi-Meltagun - 120
Defiler - 195 - Warlord
Forgefiend - 175
Forgefiend - 175
Forgefiend - 175

++Daemon Ally Detachment++
Herald on Disc w/ ML 2 Paradox and Exalted Locus of Conjuration - 145
11 Blue Horrors - 55

Total: 1850

The Defiler has a 4++, 4 HP and IWND. Depending on its Warlord Trait, it can either grant orders via Voice of Lorgar, alter mutations with Nexus of the Gods, or be a ML 1 Malefic Psyker. As a Daemon, it only Perils on double 6s. As a Word Bearer, it manifests summons on 3s instead of 4s. Cultists bubblewrap. Sorcerers and Herald summon, and ideally get Cursed Earth for a 3++ Defiler, though the Herald can also grant Prescience to a Fiend or Defiler. Fiends are mostly for range, to stay in range of the Cursed Earth bubbles, and to punch through Void Shields and other nasty stuff. Warpsmith took a Combi-Melta to double-tap a trouble target. Because everything else has Crusader, the mob is faster than it looks too.

Competitive? No, but it's not a complete pushover. Hilarious? Absolutely.

This is possibly the greatest idea ever. I love it.

My only suggestion would be to find the points for the power scourge on the defiler, possibly by losing the disk on the herald. That debuff could keep him alive in CC where challenges are a things for characters and since he's on his own, he can't refuse.

I thought about the Scourge. However, if I do drop the disc, I figure it's either for a 3rd Mastery Level or if I want to run a tri-Ectoplasma Fiend. I was a fan of old-school Ravagers and this looks like a modern crowd controller.

Thanks for the feedback!

Honestly I can't imagine the Defiler lasting through the first turn. And if it dies what kind of a list is it then? I suppose surrounding it in the forgefiends would help keep it alive but although I love the idea of the defiler (I would model a dark apostle on an alter onto it)

Nice list and interesting idea. I have a perhaps dumb question (I'm a newb): Under the Grand Host there are 2 core formations the Chaos Warband and the Lost and the Damned. The color coded symbols showing the requirements for the Grand Host indicate that 1+ is required of the core formations and I took that to meant that you had to take at least 1 of each (so both the warband and the L&D formations). Am I mis-understanding how that works?

1+ core formations not one of each core formation.

Reserve the big stuff if going second vs Grav Skyhammer and bunker/bubble-wrap otherwise. Spread out to deny DS zones, and recycle some cultists. Each Bubblewrap unit they kill becomes a unit that has the potential to cap objectives.

Otherwise, summon, and pop Cursed Earth. 3++ is still admittedly boss. It will be a tough fight either way, but the list has a mix of bodies and shots to eliminate trouble targets. The toughest threat will probably be a Wolfstar, due to T5 and good saves. ITC does at least nerf Invisibility and I have a good WC total. Hit it with Curse of the Leper then open up with everything else for Instant Death-ing it.

Come to think of it, that Cerebrite is looking more attractive.

This list is amazing! Even if the defiler maybe is too much (but really really cool in the aesthetic of the army), you could swap it for a Maulerfiend to add some counterattack potential and promote the nurgle sorcerer to warlord: with 20 culltist he s well protected, and he ll be a good temptation for the opponent to try to really shoot at the cultists (cus in the end, they just get ignored most of the times)

Which type of demons would you summon to synergize with this list?

The usual priority Daemons are Flesh Hounds and Daemonettes. Fast-moving tank hunters or fast-moving bubble-wrap/Wraithknight-hunters. In a pinch, Horrors are hilarious versus shooting armies now that they can Split.

Warlord Psyker Defiler is a joke as much as anything else. Best-case scenario is he gets Sacrifice or Cursed Earth, but in a pinch, Summoning with 3+ while only suffering Perils on 6s is neat, and if he does take damage he gets both IWND and a Warpsmith. If that doesn't work, he either uses Baleful Nexus or Voice of Lorgar for buffs most likely.

Also, my main tweak to the list is to drop the Disc of Tzeentch, and give one of the Fiends 3 Ectoplasma Cannons. With Paradox and Prescience and reusable Daemonforge, that thing becomes a giant glass cannon, but can chew through wounds surprisingly fast.
