Greetings and salutations everyone!
By way of introduction I have very little experience with the world of inq28 or inquisimunda but what I am learning has inspired me to start a plog here.
The setting:
The world of Duty's End. My favourite epithet for the 40k universe is the quote "only is death does duty end" which makes the idea of a cemetery world all the more morbidly brilliant as a concept. The idea of an entire planet devoted to the dead, rows of monuments, statues, headstones and so forth. That the industry of an entire world could be turned to the disposal and veneration of the dead is fascinating to me, what sort of people would live there? What would they do? What does a society built around that concept feel like? Well, if you stick around around we'll find out.
Without further ado, here's the first character, an eldar of undisclosed origin (but there are some hints in the paint job), whose motives have temporarily run parallel with the rest of the group. As soon as I saw the dark elf assassin model I knew there was a conversion in there. When I started though I saw that I didn't want to change very much, so it's just an arm swap, some damage to the cloak and a basing change. I feel that the model is maybe a little too fantasy than 40k still, but I like the ambiguity. As an alien I feel that their sense of style would not necessarily align with human conceptions. At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. I haven't completely decided on the make up of the rest of the gang but it will involve a gang of thieves, smugglers and ne'erdowells intent on stealing something of value from the planet. Whether they remain aligned or splinter after different objectives...we shall see. I'm also envisaging another group, with a different feel altogether which will intersect with their story. Something nurgle/tech themed but more computer virus than bubonic plague.
Oh, and that's not just snow. I had an idea that the crematoriums were on such a planetary scale that the ash remains of the dead seed the clouds and fall back to the surface as snow/ash. So all of the living inhabitants spend their time inhaling the particulates of the fallen as a way to honour them. Seems like something that would happen somewhere in the 40k setting.

Well mate, first of all that's a grand paint job, that mask is brilliant! And the lore behind your war band is fantastic, a very grimdark setting perfect for 40k. Looking forward to see how this blog goes.

Thanks for the kind words everyone.
So I mentioned in the original post that I had an idea for a second group that would eventually intersect with the band of thieves. They have a distinctly nurgle theme, emphasising the obsolescence of machinery and the natural decline towards entropy as a divine process. As such wear and tear, corrosion and decay are celebrated, and those changes are encouraged and imposed on systems they find, willingly or otherwise. The working title is "the adherents of the second law", as a rough nod to contemporary science on thermodynamics. I love the idea that such concepts, when viewed through a 38000 year lens might have taken on a mythical, theological weight in the same way that mechanicum science is venerated. That such ideas loosely fit nurgle themes gives scope for deviation from Martian standard. Whether the adherents are wittingly corrupted by nurgle I'm not sure yet.
I started these a while ago, but since it fits back in with the overall project I thought I'd share the best of my experiments.
Despite the use of daemon parts, I would rather think of them as exotic biological additions rather than warpcraft , it keeps the ambiguity about the followers full acknowledgement of Papa Nurgle.

Absolutely love the thought behind you world. That's one of my favourite thought experiments, changing one (or a few) key things about a society and running through the whole butterfly effect of how that would change their culture and the outlook of individuals
Also stellar conversion work. Very twisted and grimdark, and I love the dynamism of the Eldar assassin

Been working on a bounty hunter for the gang of criminals. I started with the empire gun master model (sublimely ridiculous) and updated a few things to separate it from the fantasy setting. I love the sternguard veteran head with the beard, and this guy definitely needed a beard, so that's what he got. A bionic from the skitarii box and the big rifle to replace the musket. I also used the mini computer as a targeting/wind calculator for the long range shots. I'm also planning on using a converted gryph hound for a cyber familiar when the blitz arrive.
The more I think about this gang the more I feel like they represent the higher circles of crime and society in the 40k universe. A mix of aristocracy, lots of money, organised white collar crime and so forth, hence a more refined look. This will provide more of a contrast to the grimy, corroded nurgle tech group. I also like the challenge of trying to create something within the setting that is representative of those upper echelons but also subversive and still with that touch of gothic noir that epitomises the inq28 hobby for me.
Hopefully this gets some of that across, a WIP but mostly just basing and a litttle tidy up to do.
My idea is that the bounty hunter is able to use such a ludicrous weapon because he operates from preposterous ranges and hence is not concerned with camo and concealment. The extra gubbins accounts for all the sensors and data processing that would be required to shoot from such a distance. The character also has a streak of vanity and has eschewed any facial bionics that may have negated a need for the scopes. Rather than get his hands dirty he sends his familiar to collect the bodies so he can collect the cash. He is in this instance, a gun for hire (a very expensive one at that) for the heist the gang is trying to pull off.

@yneadwraith- thank you, I'm glad that came across in the model, hope that painting will complete the theme well enough.
In the meantime here is the completed construction. I was not entirely sure about the black and white WIP photos but actually it hides the green stuff so the eye cam follow the whole model. I can see why it's a popular idea!

I've been working on the next character. This individual has devoted themselves to mastering logic engine override and noosphere espionage, aka the contemporary hacker trope. His body has atrophied as he dedicated all of his earnings stealing and manipulating data into making himself even better at his job. Since this is entirely cerebral he has adopted an anti grav palanquin to carry him around, incorporating all sorts of vox and data thieves, scanners and auspexes to help him infiltrate and interact with a variety of human and Xenos networks.. It is suitably armed and protected by force fields rather than armour, for those occasions when going outside is required. I wanted a baroque edge, but hints of more advanced tech that was a little less steampunk than the bounty hunter. Here's a WIP of the suspensor. Since his body is no longer useful, there is a puppet servitor floating at the front carrying a vox grille for personal interactions.

Really nice looking stuff! I love the idea of this all taking place on a cemetery world; not something you see a lot of people touch on even though they're so commonplace in the 40k setting. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing everything painted up. Though, honestly, I'm really not fond of the black and white photos. I think it's more fun to be able to see the sculpting and separate parts so the real magic of bringing everything together with paint really blows you away. But that's just me!
Keep up the good work! I'll be following this closely!

@Darth bob- thanks, I'm looking forward to exploring the nooks and crannies of that sort of environment. Should yield some interesting niche characters.
I also finished construction on the data thief/noospheric infiltrator(hacker).
I've included the colour pic this time for added clarity! Bonus points if you can spot where all the bits came from.

Looks fantastic! Really grimdark Blanchitsu style modelling. Looking forward immensely to what other characters you cook up with your excellent theme! Oh, and paint too
As for bits, I spy the creepy melta-bomb cherub from the new Dev squad, the vox thing from Scions, 2 Tau drone heads, some sicarian bits (head and aerials), the scanner-thing from Skitarii Vanguard/Rangers and vestigial mechanical arms from Kataphron servitors!
Not sure where the underslung autocannon is from (I'm guessing kataphrons again?) and the body and skinny left arm have me stumped!
Very innovative!

One thing I thought of was a gravedigger type character for your Nurglitch AdMech guys. Someone who digs up the more well-hidden graves around the Cemetery World to take desirable body parts and makes horrible stitched Frankenstein's monster-style abominations to serve him.
But the hacker looks great! Appreciate the colored photos. It really shows how much work has gone into the piece. Can't wait to see him all painted up.

I’ve finally put some paint on the system infiltrator. I wanted a palette and style that was suitably noir but without being too grungy. I feel like he’s got enough resources and pride to not let his kit degrade too much, so no excessive weathering. Since he has long since divested himself of mechanicus allegiance I tried to represent his ambiguous nature whilst retaining a modicum of body horror.
Regards his background, I feel he is best described as a techno-atheist. A one time ad-mech cult member, his pride mixed with disillusionment to push him away from the organisation where he could take his skills and grow them without the dogmatic restriction of the religion. I didn’t want him to immediately jump to the opposite end and go beseeching chaos for more power, as his pride (currently) is enough to make him believe he doesn’t need them. He views machines as machines, not holy vessels or objects of worship, and so is much more pragmatic about invention or manipulation of them.
Now he just needs a base...and some nicer photos.
