Subject: Couple of thousand sons questions

Jovial Plaguebearer of Nurgle

Hey guys I have a couple of quick questions regarding these as I build up my 1k sons warband.
1) do they recruit and can they create new marines?
2) if they can't recruit what do they do take over renegade warbands? If so would they wear the legion colors? Also would those loyal to magnus do this or is it ahrimans lot only?
Thanks for any answers given

The sorcerers who are still fleshy can presumeably create new marines, but in small numbers as there is a small number of sorcerers.
New rubric marines can be created, but it is a time consuming laborious process.
The legion of Tsons no longer really exists as a single fighting force and then there are also plenty of renegade marines/marines from other legions who have devoted themselves to tzeench. Non Tson tzeench marines would not become rubric marines but would fight with Magnus or Ahriman.

Thanks for the answers, I guess that does make a lot of sense. I imagine stealing geneseed is also something they could do.
Would the non thousand son (geneseed wise) members of the legion be treated as lessors or equals? Or is this one of those cases its depends on the sorceror/lord leading the warband?

Very much depends, as some warbands, particularly those that remained in the Planet of the Sorcerers, will put a lot of weight on lineage and being loyal to Magnus. Whereas plenty of others will take on any marine who shows an aptitude and won't be seen as a threat in the near future.

I have been playing Thousand Sons since 3rd and edition and trust me, the fluff is as changeable as Tzeentch himself.
In that regard, you're pretty much free to do whatever you want.
The fluff book for Wrath of Magnus has some great stuff in the back regarding warbands.
Basically, the Planet of Sorcerers is home to many different cults and warbands, all of which have their own liveries, belief systems, and motives.
Generally speaking, chaos warbands 'recruit' in many ways. Sometimes they start cults on various worlds, sometimes they observe the populations of daemon worlds for promising candidates, they may also 'acquire' other warbands by slaying the leader in ritual (or otherwise) combat.
Rubric marines are probably acquired either through the latter method, or perhaps as a reward.
The more powerful sorcerers can actually use the rubric as a weapon, turning their foes to dust on the spot. (Ahriman did this to someone at least once.) It is likely that new Rubric marines could be created in a similar manner.
Anyway, those are some possibilities. I Hope this helps.

Thank you
So for my warband I'm thinking of going along the lines of they have fully embraced Tzeench like their father. Their leader is a daemon prince who was alive during the heresy. The chaos lord who is one of the princes lieutenants has turned many undivided renegade warbands to Tzeench. They are currently rumored to be 2000 men strong with the actual thousand sons being a 10th of the warband. This is due to the former leader having hunted a few of the sorcerors who were exiled alongside Ahriman

That sounds like a great backstory.
Are you going to go with a unique paint scheme or one of the ones from the book?

Chaos can have the worst elements of nepotism, but most of Chaos is a perfect meritocracy. Those who can do have power and are respected, those who cannot die. The gods reward your achievements with new abilities. May they favor you.
