I decided to base my Ironjawz around warcraft orcs, taking bits and pieces from different parts of the 3 wars. For example, I'm using red as my main color, all of the orcs are different shades of green, the texture point of the bases was to be martian ironearth and ironcrust for a durotar/blasted lands effect, however i want the bases to be a little more interesting than just red cracked earth. I liked the idea of adding rocks, but don't know would the rocks also be reddish? How would i achieve this affect, what are some other good effects I could add. Right now only my megaboss and warchanter have texture paint and some sprue that I covered in the texture paint to give it a bumpier affect, though I'm definitely not sold on it.

I'm working on my Gordrakk model atm and want him to definitely be the centerpiece model when its all done.

Bits of broken up brick would be in the right colour area, I'd think.

Cracked earth can look nice with "patches" of static grass. GW used to make a "scorched earth" pack, that had dried and dead looking grass, if I recall. Just put a few small dabs of glue on the finished base, and sprinkle with static grass. Looks like small clumps of grass barely clinging to life.

If you're going for a real Mars type land scape, small mini-craters could look good. Make a small pile of sand/glue mixture, and press something round onto the top. Ball bearings, maybe the bottom of a rounded pen, a small marble to make a largish crater. Allow to dry, and ta-dah!

Try googling "Desert Landscapes" to see what you could adapt. I don't know if you'd have the skill to pull of small cacti, or desert flowers, but that would be unique and probably appropriate.

my plan was to give off a Durotar/Blasted lands kind of look from WoW.

Eh don't know how relevant this is but Northamptonshire ironstone is a red rock which has pieces of yellow rock in it.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Black slate contrasts well against the red iron earth colours.

Sgt. Vanden - OOC Hey, that was your doing. I didn't choose to fly in the "Dongerprise'.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all.

Black or dark grey slate, and of course skulls. Always skulls. But for real, some skulls and bones would look cool especially if they're partially also covered in that red dirt!

I decided on the theme of land transition. Since my army was based on warcraft orcs, The area they entered was the Swamp of Sorrors, while the land nearby become corrupted with fel energy. So since Gordrakk would be the center of the army, I have him in mostly swampy lands but with some of the cracked earth behind him. I will base other models either half and half, like i did here, or all cracked or all swamp to give the army a nice variety.
