It's probably a little early for this, but the more I hear about the 40k gathering storm, the more it sounds like fantasy end times / age of sigmar.

I mean, end times kicked off with the fall of kislev. Well, space kislev (cadia) just fell.

Now there's the rebranding of eldar, just like in AoS. I'm certain there's more to follow of that.

Then there's the fact there's supposed to be another 4 or so supplements, and that's after cadia's destruction. That's a lot of supplements in a pretty short time, again, just like the end times.

Then, there's the fact that, despite the uproar it caused, AoS has been a resounding financial success for GW. Personally, I think they'd be crazy to look at the increased revenue that AoS created out of their fantasy line, and then not think about doing the same to 40k. And it's easy to say "Geedubz is just greedy", but honestly, can you say you wouldn't do the same if you were in charge? That's a lot of money they could be looking at, and again, if AoS was any indication, it'd be a solid bet.

Anyways. It seems to me that GW is heading down the exact same road they went down with fantasy/AoS, for better or worse. Personally, I don't think that they'll blow up the universe, but past that I'd be ready for anything, including the death/rebirth of the emprah.

Fluff-wise, what do you guys think might be coming? Will abbadon head back to the eye and lick his wounds, or push on? I wouldn't be surprised by another siege of terra, personally.

Rules-wise, the same? I'm expecting a complete AoS style overhaul.

My speculation is fueled primarily by the fact that AoS has been a big moneymaker for GW, and that I'd expect they'd try to replicate that effect with their 40k line. But I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into that?

I'm not trying to complain or start yelling about how the sky is falling, and I'm honestly keeping an open mind. Most people I've spoken to who have given AoS an honest shot say they like it. And it brought free rules and a ton of new models, so it's not all bad, seems like.

Though, I didn't really follow fantasy end times that closely. For anyone who did, how much is the gathering storm lining up with the beginning of the end times?

I'm not sure what 8th edition has in store, but I'm personally expecting BIG changes. In the end, my orks (or whatever they'll be called) won't really mind, long as there's stuff to fight, krump, and loot.

I think we'll get Siege of Terra around July, and 8th in time for Christmas. I think Chaos marines will become so depleted by the actual Siege of Terra, as will forces of the Imperium, that it'll pave the way for a big Xenos focus for a while.

I also heard rumors about abbadon striking a deal with ghaz.

They're certainly creating a narrative and pushing the story forward. That doesn't mean there will be major rule changes.

The biggest difference between fantasy and 40k, is that fantasy was losing the company money, and 40k is not. Fantasy was reinvented out of absolute necessity to keep the game alive. 40k is already popular and getting a boost.

At least that's how i see it.

I speculate people will continue to fear monger the idea of 40k being AOS'd, and insinuating AOS is not now a good game in it's own right.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

So...Skaven equivalent drive the Nids out of the solar system? Or would Nids drive Necrons out? I'm not sure how this would work.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

To predict what "AoSificatuon" 40k will and won't get, I think it is important to direct why AoS happened. (An explanation I am stealing from corporate in Houston, so I'm not just speculating)

Warhammer at the time was making GW less than 10% of their total revenue. Paints made more profit than models, rules, and scenery for WHFB. There was a systemic problem. Not just rules, but the entire brand. They had to shake it up to save the company.

Now, look at 40k. It accounts for nearly half of the company, and is a juggernaut, even when GW doesn't pay the brand any attention. (As was seen during the AoS reboot) A complete change is not necessary. We may see tweaks to lore, and we are definitely seeing the main story start moving, which almost never happens. However, there won't be rebranding of entire armies, and a complete rules overhaul to the extent of AoS.

That being said, GW does understand that there is ano over saturation of rules to 40k. A simplification (not on the scale of AoS) could be expected for 8th. If we are lucky, this will include the extinction of the Codex as we know it, and lowering the overall buy in for new players to the game.

Keep in mind this probably won't be until 2018.

TL;DR: Not a complete overhaul like AoS. Probably rules simplification (not complete change), and maybe moving to free style rules like AoS.

Not early at all. If anything it's too late because anything we say will not be able to change anything at all. I am sure the books are about to be printed soon or close to soon so nothing major can change if we find we don't actually like how something will be.

I mean, end times kicked off with the fall of kislev. Well, space kislev (cadia) just fell.

Not fimliar of End Times in Fantasy only that it happened. What is Kislev? Also you made the classic GW mistakes. Spelling.

Now there's the rebranding of eldar, just like in AoS. I'm certain there's more to follow of that.

A bit premature there? How do you know it's not just "what the Eldar call themselves" since everything is in the eyes of the Imperium of Man all the time with Imperium of Man names? Just like Tyranids. Do Tyranids call themselves that? Also if you are going to compare name changes, did End Times Fantasy have name changes or did this happen only after if was eliminated and replaced?

Then there's the fact there's supposed to be another 4 or so supplements, and that's after cadia's destruction. That's a lot of supplements in a pretty short time, again, just like the end times.

Where is this supposed 4 or so supplements? Rumours? Also short time? Didn't End times take about a year or so? I am sure End Times was not 7 months or less. You comparisons are not the same.

Then, there's the fact that, despite the uproar it caused, AoS has been a resounding financial success for GW. Personally, I think they'd be crazy to look at the increased revenue that AoS created out of their fantasy line, and then not think about doing the same to 40k. Age of Sigmar a resounding financial success? I am not a Age of Sigmar hater, but this can be debated. You have proof of this? I believe and please correct me if I am wrong, the first 6 months or should I say the first 12 months could have been considered a failure. So where is this financial success? It wasn't in 2015.

Anyways. It seems to me that GW is heading down the exact same road they went down with fantasy/AoS, for better or worse. Personally, I don't think that they'll blow up the universe, but past that I'd be ready for anything, including the death/rebirth of the emprah.

I think I gave some good evidence they are not going down the same path. The same path lead to less sales in 2015. We can't prove what 2016 brought. So I am sure GW doesn't want to go down the same path of Age of Sigmar.

Fluff-wise, what do you guys think might be coming? Will abbadon head back to the eye and lick his wounds, or push on? I wouldn't be surprised by another siege of terra, personally.

I don't have a clue so can't really say. Maybe that is how 8th edition will start if rumours are true.

Rules-wise, the same? I'm expecting a complete AoS style overhaul.

I don't think so. GW can't afford the toxicity of what happened with the beginning of Age of Sigmar. So I am sure it will not happen with 40K and wash all away what 2016 brought in. If this happens, then you will see all the social media shut down because there will be too much for "editor" to delete the negative or toxic comments and anything that doesn't put a positive spin on 8th edition.

My speculation is fueled primarily by the fact that AoS has been a big moneymaker for GW, and that I'd expect they'd try to replicate that effect with their 40k line. But I don't know, maybe I'm reading too much into that?

You are starting to say the sky is falling. You have made a lot of assumptions with false facts. That is sounding like the sky is falling instead of wait and see. You are predicting failure or something bad is going to happen on false facts.

Though, I didn't really follow fantasy end times that closely. For anyone who did, how much is the gathering storm lining up with the beginning of the end times?

I am not predicting BIG changes for 8th edition. I am afraid it will just be subtle changes and 8th edition will really be third edition still. Version 3.5.

I really would love to have free datascrolls like Age of Sigmar has, but has GW really gotten away from charging us for everything? There is a reason why GW is giving things free for Age of Sigmar. They need people to come to it. Do they really need people to come to 40K or can they just be "OK" and have the current base keep buying as they are now but don't need fresh blood yet for 40K so don't need to make the drastic changes like they did with Age of Sigmar.

Time will tell. 5 months or so and counting now.

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

They need to get rid of the assault phase. It's essentially; 'K who's numbers are better? You? K you win but let's spend 40 minutes across the next 3 turns throwing dice at a foregone conclusion.'
