This came up at a major event recently. My opponent informed me that my lynx's pulsar was a salvo weapon. I disagreed on the grounds that in its weapon profile it didn't have the word 'salvo', nor did it have the fraction format that salvo weapons use. He countered that the name of the weapon's mode of fire was either "Saturation" or "Salvo". The TO ruled that it WAS a salvo weapon and we continued using those rules (note: the TO's word is always final, so it ended the discussion in my mind for the event).

Has anyone else have this discussion? I do not believe that it is a salvo weapon... but i could be wrong

No salvo rule = not a salvo weapon.
An assault cannon is not an assault weapon, and a heavy flamer is not a heavy weapon.

Regardless, salvo is irrelevant on vehicles anyway.

I mentioned the "It's on a vehicle" and that didn't seem to matter to anyone. I figured vehicles are always relentless so it kinda negated it all... but was told to use half range with 3 shots.

off topic:
Idk, it was one of those games that I came away from rather dissapointed with a lot of things that happened. Not outcome or anything, I just expected more.

Next time draw your book of mymeara or the Copy you brought and point how clearly on type it says ORDINANCE.

The firing mode is largely irrelevant in any weapon, only need to check is range (for some template effects) and Type where the kind of weapon show salvo/heavy/rapid/ fire /assault.

yea, I did that. I opened my book right to the page and showed him it wasn't in the weapon rules. My opponent pointed to the word "Salvo" in the weapon firing mode and insisted that it meant that it was a salvo weapon. When I said "its on a vehicle" he said it didn't matter.

I guess the answer to this one is pretty clear.

I really don't like games devolving into perpetual rules debates, so I generally won't fight rules. If i'm going to drive for hours and spend my weekend i'd much rather get past the 2nd turn in the games I play... Guess I need to start fighting them. Lesson learned I guess.

Someone mentioned it already in passing, but I'd like to emphasise it. The example of a Space Marine "Heavy Flamer" and SM "Assault Cannon" are both great in this instance.
A Heavy Flamer is an assault weapon, and an Assault Cannon is a Heavy Weapon.
Clearly and obviously, the name of the gun has nothing to do with its firing rules.

There are also instances of items in a particular list having properties different than you'd think.

For example, in the Deathwatch codex, some models may take items from the "Heavy Weapons list," which includes weapons that do not have the "heavy" characteristic, such as the Deathwatch Frag Cannon, which is an assault weapon in both of its firing modes.

To be fair it sounds like the TO was pretty clueless.
A weapons profile states at the end what form of weapon it is (heavy, Salvo etc)
That should have simply ended it then and there when you showed him the book.

It does say salvo, but that's in reference to its fire mode as it's optional.
Much like rail guns can fire solid shot or submunition.
Does not mean they are of the type "solid" or "submunition" weapon.
It's simply the name of the selected firing mode.

Really does make me question some TO's at times as I've seen the same thing come up recently.

With things like that, it's honestly worth fighting your point.
If it's something negligible, then ignore it.

And as you stated, even if it were a salvo type weapon it means nothing as it's on a vehicle lol.

That's just a facepalming situation.

i can understand a bit controversial rule from a TO between an odd mix of rules but something so basic would made me go full slow in the Tournament.

*speaking loud* cheers guys the TO has ruling Relentless in vehicles does nothing feels good for all your IK and vehicle users out there hang in tight!!*

If I were you, I'd stop playing in tourneys with such TO. He clearly doesn't know what he's doing.
