So tell me if I have this correct: Chapter tactics don't apply to vehicles (except Dreadnoughts) unless it's Iron Hands (the FAQ seems to say this)?

Main reason I'm asking is because I'm going about building a Salamanders army and the land speeder heavy flamers look wonderfully tempting, but they won't benefit from the Chapter Tactics of the Salamanders. Is it worth the 50pts despite this?

Secondly, I'm wondering about the use/proportion of Melta weaponry. While I don't want to get tied down to bringing He'stan (especially below 1000 points), Multi-Melta attack bikes seem like a good platform for the cost. and 70 point land speeders with 2 multi-meltas look like they might be pretty effective. Thoughts?

You are correct. Most vehicles lack Chapter Tactics, so don’t get much in the way of extra perks.

Speeders are very fragile. I’m not a huge fan of the close range ones. If you are in range to kill something, you are in range to die. Basic small arms is all it takes to bring you down. That said, you press the nose of your 2xMM speeder up against something, there is a reasonable chance it will join you in death. And getting to HF some irritating unit out of backfield cover can also be worth the sacrifice.

I generally prefer TML/HB speeders, which can be irritating all game larking about taking pot shots. YMMV.

Bike do get CT, so can leverage a lot more advantages. And in general are in a good spot this edition. As much as I like speeders, I’d probably suggest a bike squad to fill similar roles.

That's sort of how I'm looking at it. For 50 points it's pretty expendable and if it does line up a twin HF shot, it'll more than get its points back. Heck, soaking up an entire squad's worth of firepower for a turn might well be worth its death.

That seems good too.

I plan on having bikes, and I think the Attack Bike is possibly the best MM platform. The 2xHF Land Speeder is just crazy enough to be fun, though, and at 50 pts it's easy to squeeze into a list.
