Well, after GW recently released these guys as 'classic models', I thought I'd better finally get around to painting my original ones!

They are painted in the scheme of my 144th Rangers Regiment, as per the rest of the army (example https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/20385-.html)

Still getting the hang of my new lightbox, so bear with me on the photos:

The whole gang

Great to get these done - but I have to say I don't miss painting metal. It's hell on the brushes!

I was expecting berets, but these are kind of old school and very sharply painted.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Very nice. Rest of the rangers are very nice as well. Camo looks great. I definitely don't have that much patience!

One of my favourite lines of GW ImpGuard, nice job. Very crisp and smooth painting. I think I would really like to see one small area of contrasting colour, somewhere. Like a red shoulder pad (ala VOTOMS) or something. While crisply painted the all-green...on a green base leaves a bit of curb appeal. For instance I think the plasma guys and the sergeants look better because of the contrasting blue!

Nice work!

I love the paint scheme, especially the highlight color that isn't too bright. And nice work on the helmet's visors, it's a nice touch.
They probably lack a little bit of contrast, especially with the green base. I guess your whole army is based the same, otherwise a reddish martian base could make them stand out a lot more.
A red armor plate somewhere would also work, as Elbows suggested, but again it might clash with the rest of your army…

Yeah, I have quite a few of these guys, they called them "Kasrkin".
<edit> Where are my manners? Those are very well painted, I especially like the lenses.

These are the "older" Stormtrooper models, I have a few squads of these (note: not my models):

Then the really old "originals" (I have "one" guy...):

Thanks for the comments guys.

Fair cop on the name - I have updated the title. I forgot these were actually the third version of storm troopers GW did. They've been sitting in the unpatined pile for so long they just seemed ancient!

I get the contrast comments also. One of the issues with painting fairly accurate camouflage on 25mm figures is that they can kind of merge into the background on the table (which is, I guess, the idea!). The photos aren't the best, they are a bit brighter in person and with all the bling on the model (lenses, IG insignia/badges, rangefinders) my limit for colour was reached!

I noticed you went for a slightly brighter edge highlight which looks correct.
I found that same problem that very accurate camouflage makes you forget your models in scenery.
I usually go for a more... "eye gouging" bright highlight so they stand out more, not as "real" but makes them easier to spot.
Plus in 40k I think they wear camouflage more by accident since it is expected, no self respecting trooper needs to resort to "hiding".

Lovely job on those Kasrkin, Gordy! I am a fan of the muted colours you have chosen and applaud the application of what appears to be, in my eyes anyway, tropical DPM camouflage to the fatigues. Very crisp painting all round.

I have a squad sitting in a box at home which is in dire need of paint and this may have just inspired me to get them done.

These models look great! Very well done, I like the muted look. A lot of 'loud' stuff out there these days, this is refreshing.

Certainly a very practical choice of uniform for these guys, and painted up nicely to boot, too! I love the camo that you use for your Guard, great stuff!
