I guess I'm just an old man out of touch with reality. Also haven't played since 5th edition. What in sweet baby jesus' name are codex supplements? Do I still need the base codex? And what's a preferable chaos space marines one? Thanks in advance dakka

'Supplements' are, as the name may suggest, supplemental. They add content to the base Codex.

If you want to use CSM today you'll need the base Codex and you'll probably want Traitor Legions, which is a large supplement that gives content for each of the original nine Legions, and formations and psychic powers for any CSM army.

Yes, you need to buy the "base" codex and then all the other supplementals if you want the "extras".

Agies Grimm:The "Learn to play, bro" mentality is mostly just a way for someone to try to shame you by implying that their metaphorical nerd-wiener is bigger than yours. Which, ironically, I think nerds do even more vehemently than jocks.

Everything is made up and the points don't matter. 40K or Who's Line is it Anyway?

Absolutely. You need legal detachments of both, but a 'detachment' could be a traditional CAD, a different sort of FOC, or one of 7e's new formations or meta-formations.

(The 'Daemonic Incursion Edition' of the Daemons Codex has the Daemon overhaul supplement in it, so you just need the one thing.)
