The Emperor's Forge Mitten, Earth

This is going to be my first foray into starting a small Thousand sons army to go along with my Tzeentch daemons. Well, as far as painting goes. I've pretty much got what I've want (just in boxes). I've been jumping around between projects going from some test models of berzerkers or my Panther tank, but for now I'll be painting these Thousand sons I think until they are all complete, before I continue with something else. So I should be busy with these guys for awhile seeing as how much of a pain in the they are to paint...

Don't get me wrong, I love the models and the detail is fantastic and everything I've ever wanted in a rubric marine, but good god are they difficult (imho). I have learned a few tricks however I'm willing to pass on: Pain the tabards? (cloth thing), weapons, and back packs seperate and glue them on later. I tried painting one of them with everything glued and it was the most painful thing to do in the world having to constantly go back and do touch-ups. Granted I still have to do touch-ups with the "tricks", but it's not as troubling.

Anyway here are the first 5 guys (took me roughly a week to build/paint). The sorcerer I did first and he is actually a lighter blue than the rubricae. Probably not a good idea to use an actual model as a test model, but that's how I roll. He came out just fine, but from this point forward I'm going with the darker blue/turquoise of the rubric marines for everything else. He'll just be a little...special.

Feel free to click the image and zoom in for a closer look.
Look forward to some more Thousand sons in the coming weeks!

Good job mate. I think these came out quite well. Very solid over all.

And no big deal on the sorcerer. You could always say he was a former librarian and never bothered to repaint his armor

This guy took forever, but he will be well worth it on the tabletop I think. I was kind of bored with just the plain cream lining on the cloak so I decided to Jackson Pollock over the thing with as many bright colors as I had on hand. Washed that with blue glaze and then put a gloss coat over that. Pretty happy with that result.

Finished the other half of rubric marine box #1 as well.

These are amazing!!

Ahriman looks awesome.

I also planned on painting the magic coming from the right hand as gout of flame. thanks for a great example.

I assume you went traditional method of painting the blue first and then going back with the gold?

I'm digging that Jade swirl thing you had on the bolters. A close up on that would be great. Superb work!

Thanks!

Actually I based the gold first, then a wash and drybrush after. Then I painted in the blue with a fine detail brush. Seems to work out fine. I just end up having to do a few touch-ups of gold at the end.

Good to know.

I have not decided yet if am basing gold, washing the gold then blocking in the blue or doing the opposite.

Seems folks of either method are happy.

I figured going gold then washing and dry brusing the gold first might be cleaner with fewer touch ups on the blue.

Thanks again for sharing and looking forward to the termies.

Presenting some Scarab Occult Termies!

I'm a bit upset, my photography lamp broke so I wasn't really able to get good lighting on these guys today. At least I have an excuse to get a new one now...

Looking forward to playing some 8th with my sons so of course I was obligated to get big daddy Magnus for such an occasion! (Oh and if it looks like Magnus' head is not fully flush, it's because it's pinned so I can transport him easier.)

None too pleased.
