I want to make sure I am reading things right before I put my 80+ plague monks together.

in the FAQ
Q: How do models like horn blowers and standard bearers work? Do they lose the weapons they would otherwise carry, or do you just gain the benefits of the upgrades without penalty?
A: You just gain the benefits unless specifically stated otherwise. The model is assumed to still have any weapons it had before it was upgraded, even if the weapons are not shown on the model itself.

So this means all models can be considered to have 2 foetid blades, mainly for the rerolls if I understand that right

In looking at the warscroll, Foetid Blade has 2 attacks, Woe Stave has one attack. now if a figure has foetid blade in one hand and woe stave in the other they get 3 attacks right ?
Now if the figure has a Foetid Blade in each hand, thats 2 attacks with rerolls for failed hits?

Since a unit has a base of 5 figures.
1 - Leader - with scroll or book.
2 - Icon Bearer - with Contagion Banner or Icon of Pestilence
3 - Plague Harbringers - with Doom Gong or Bale-chime

So my unit of 5 would be all with 2 foetid blades.
1. Leader - Scroll or Book
2. Icon Bearer with Contagion banner
3. Icon Bearer with Icon of Pestilence
4. Plague Harbringer with Doom Gong
5. Plague Harbringer with Bale-chime

adding each additional 5 to the unit until it hits 20 would be
1. Plague Monk with 2 foetid Blades
2. Icon Bearer with Contagion banner
3. Icon Bearer with Icon of Pestilence
4. Plague Harbringer with Doom Gong
5. Plague Harbringer with Bale-chime

A unit of 20 would end up being.
(1) Leader - Scroll or Book
(3) Plague Monks with Foetid Blades
(4) Icon Bearer with Contagion banner
(4) Icon Bearer with Icon of Pestilence
(4) Plague Harbringer with Doom Gong
(4) Plague Harbringer with Bale-chime

While you can have multiples of the same music/standard there is no actual benefit in doing so. Also note that the leader of the unit only ever has one blade (and no staff) because of the wording.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Thats why I am asking as it also seems the Leader also doesnt get an extra attack. Guess there is a difference from leader and champion. But to only be able to use the scroll or book once per game and only be able to have one weapons doesnt seem balanced.

Also, one unit can always have both variations of the standard AND the musician. So a unit of five would have 4 monks with a contagion banner, doom gong, icon of pestilence and the bale chimes. They would also carry either two blades or a blade and staff. I dont think you can mix the unit (some in the unit having double blades where others have blad and staff) Then the leader (bringer of the word) with his item (only one) and a single blade.
