Hi fellow nerds,
Would like some help building my space wolves. Not sure whether this should be in list section so apologies if its in the wrong place.
I'm a returning player. Was a fantasy player, not really played 40k since 4th. With the death of fantasy took a break but recently picked up a pretty large space wolf army for cheap. I was looking for some help about how to expand it to the table top.

So I have 10 terminators
land raider redeemer (no spares to change it)
30 grey hunters
20 blood claws
4 dreadnoughts (none of the new ones, couple of venerable)
rhino
whirlwind
drop pod
long fangs x5

So given the huge number of marines and noughts was thinking of drop pod/ blackmane army. Don't really want to buy the new dreadnoughts given how many of them I have. Would like to try out the redeemer, but do you think trying to runa land raider in drop pod list is too much of a point sink and would attract too much firepower pre drop pods? my thoughts were that by the time the drop pods start hammering down the raider would be pretty close. if it can survive turn 1 then they will have target saturation when the raider hits and torches them Other thoughts would be to buy a crap load of rhinos and mech up with a counter strike plan with some sky claws or thunderwolves behind the grey hunter line. your help would be appreciated pre purchases.

The blackmane formation is quite powerful, with min units of SW in drop pods. Tons of meltas/plasma and combi weapons, rune priests in their formations are also nice, but you need 7-8 drop pods to play it efficiently. It's really powerful with a null deployment and I honestly don't know how to field a land raider with that style, but I don't play SW with other vehicles than drop pods and a stormwolves. Avoid rhinos spam, go with drop pods, Wulfen and Thunderwolves if you want to add some new stuff, these units are the best available for the wolves.

In the Champions of Fenris Codex, there's a detachment that lets you field Elites as mandatory choices instead of troops. So you could field the 4 dreadnoughts and 2 terminator squads if you wanted. There's also a couple of Dreadnought formations you could use as well.

Thanks for all your help. Probably go with the drop pod spam...

Yeah, Blackmanes pod spam, Ironwolves vehicle spam, or TWC/Wulfen star are the 3 big SW competitive ways to go. The last being the least friendly in casual play.

I prefer pod spam, I've always loved pods and it suits me well. Bring along a wyrdstorm brotherhood and murderfang with it for extra oomph.

Nottingham (yay!)

How about eBaying a Frost Axe & Shield and dropping a super tough Distraction Carnifex in a pod on turn one?

I like how Grey Hunters can have four Plasma weapons in a unit, that's a pretty solid use for a Rhino and has reasonable synergy with their access to ObSec.

I like the Iron Wolves but they get cash expensive real quick you'd be looking at more pods and Rhino chassis, then depending on which way you go Land Speeders or more Rhino Chassis.

The fun part of an Ironwolves list is watching your opponent's face when half their army goes 'Crunch' under your extra mobile vehicles in your first turn.

How are your modelling skills?

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

I'm not sure if our 40k definitions of "Super Tough" are the same. Don't get me wrong, I urgently wish Dreads were monstrous creatures, just so they wouldn't be so very terrible. :-p
