Hi dakka,
I decided to start my 40k journey by playing Dark Angels. I have found the dark angels part of the dark vengeance box for 30 euro. Is this a good deal? I know That they are snap fit, does this mean that ik dont have to glue them together?
Thanks in advance for information regarding this topic!

I have a number of snap fit models. I glued all of mine together so I don't lose any bolt guns or back packs. I would recommend the same. The games sells for 85 EU$, right? 30 EU$ is just under half. If you assumed 30 each for the chaos and Dark Angels, that would leave 25 EU$ for the rule book, dice, and other crap. Not a bad deal for 3 bikes, 10 tacticals, 5 terminators, and 2 HQ dudes. Especially if you're going to play Dark Angels. You might want to look at people's 1500 point lists and see how many actually use those units, though. The DV set will be around a bit longer. I'd hate for you to buy something that you build and paint, but then never use. Do you like those models and would they be fun to paint for 30 EU$ is the real question. Best of luck and welcome to the hobby!

Thank you for the quick response. I would like to have a wide range of models so i can play different play styls. I know that ravenwing is allot more viable than terminators. But it would ben nice tot paint them aswell. Maby they get better in the 8th edition?

Part of the advantage of dark vengeance is that you also get a rulebook.
If you only buy the minis you'll need a rulebook.. in which case you'll spend more than DV.
I'd say if you're trying to save $, but DV and ebay the chaos. Or, give it to a friend so you guys can play together!

You can also find the small format rulebooks on ebay for ~15-20 USD, that may be an option as well, and keeps it cheaper. But if you can split a Dark Vengeance box or sell the models you don't want, that's good too!

Sounds great! I'd glue them, personally, but you technically don't need to...
Welcome and enjoy the army. That DV is a great set for rules and models (in my opinion).

I'm a long-time DA player with more Terminators gathering dust than I know what to do with... I still bought a box of DV, and in fact picked up another set of the Terminators from it for not much. They are fairly easy to convert to be your Deathwing Command Squad or Deathwing Knights, both of which are probably marginally more competitive than regular Deathwing (only marginally, mind).

I think that sounds like a pretty good deal. You can always pick up a digital copy of the rulebook for much "cheaper" online.

I'd rate the usefulness of the Dark Vengeance Dark Angels minis as follows:
High: the Company Master, the Librarian, the Tactical Marines (less the sergeant, special weapon, and heavy weapon), the Bike Squad
The Company Master and Librarian are gorgeous minis, and can be WYSIWYG stand-ins for Azrael and Ezekial, respectively. Tactical Marines are going to be the core of a lot of lists,a nd of course Ravenwing is strong in this edition. Unfortunately, the special weapon the Bike Squad carries is a plasma gun, but it should be a fairly easy conversion to swap it out for a grav gun or meltagun.
Low: the Terminator Squad, the Tac Squad Sergeant, the plasma gun Marine, the plasma cannon Marine.
Terminators aren't very good this editiion. THSS Termies enjoyed a brief period of glory (or at least use) in 5th edition, regular "Tactical" Terminators haven't been good since 2nd edition. One can hope they'd see some improvement in 8th edition, but I'm not holding my breath. That said, they'll see some play in casual games. If you step up to competitive play, however, you'll wind up with them gathering dust.
The Tac Squad, unfortunately, is saddled with not very good choices for its weapon upgrades. Giving the sergeant a plasma pistol was a major sin in my book. The things are major wastes of points. Plasma guns have been eclipsed by grav guns in this edition, though there would be something to say for having the Company Master, a sergeant with a combi-plasma, and the plasma gun Marine all ride in the same Rhino or Razorback. The plasma cannon suffers from single small blast template weapons not being very good in this edition - you're not often likely to catch more than 2-3 models under a blast, and on the rare occasions you do get a nicely clustered target, it's apt to scatter off or overheat and not shoot. Though, I've often thought a Dev Squad with 4 plasma cannons supported by a Divination Librarian might not be bad. Prescience can help with the scattering, and if you roll up Perfect Timing you'd be ignoring cover as well.
So, yes get the DV Dark Angels, but here are recommended conversions:
Bike Squad: replace plasma gun with grav gun or meltagun. Also, replace the regular biker's bolt pistol with same. That will make them a very useful unit.
Tactical Sergeant: replace plasma pistol with a bolt pistol (to keep him cheap as possible) or a combi-plasma (to have a nice big plasma volley with the Company Master and the plasma gun Marine).
If you're wondering where to get the bitz for the conversions, you can get them on eBay, or you can wait until you expand your collection. One Tac Squad box set will net you a combi-weapon that you can make any type out of, a grav gun, a meltagun, a plasma gun, and a flamer. If you build towards a dual-demi company Lion's Blade, you're apt to wind up buying more than one Tac Squad box.

I really apreciate all of the reactions guys. I was hoping to have a nice diversity in my army. Although I am worried that the only viable list will be allot of bikes. Is this true? Since i like allot of differemt units, would you guys advise me to reconsider my army choice?

Tactical marines (Dark Angel ones specifically) are key to one of the strongest formations in the game right now: Lion's Blade. So DA can compete at the highest levels in terms of tournaments, with at least a couple of different list styles (Lion's Blade, or a more bike-heavy list, or bikes with speeder support, or a mixed Lion's Blade and bikes list assuming points allow, etc.).
However, if you're just starting out, I don't think it's too vital to have an enemy-crushing top tier list. And you can certainly take a variety of units. As a few have mentioned above, terminators of any kind will rarely be used by hardcore tournament players, though you could find a place for Deathwing Knights as a small, versatile close combat unit in a still reasonably powerful army.
