I vaguely recall a Dakka thread where someone had compiled some of the best, most diverse sources from which to get counts-as models for NetEpic. All this talk of Adeptus Titanicus has me wanting to pull the trigger, but of course now I cannot find said thread.
If people could speak to which places make the best, and IDEALLY most affordable options, I would be grateful.
Incidentally, how is the balance of NetEpic at this stage? Is it safe to pick a favorite army and go, or are any lists particularly imbalanced?

Onslaught Miniatures have excellent stuff.
Affordable is in the eye of the beholder but I've never felt cheated buying their miniatures.
I've only ever bought their not-nids but the sculpting was solid and the casting was very well-done.

So, being relatively unfamiliar with Epic list-building, what would a full-size game's worth of models, approximately run a player, from that site?
Again, i'm just really unfamiliar with model counts, and such for NetEpic

Onslaught are a good choice if you want Tau, Tyranids, Dark Eldar or Sisters of Battle.
If you want Space Marines, Adeptus Mechanicus, Titan Legions, Imperial Guard, or Orks you might want to give Vanguard Miniatures a shot.

Vanguard and Onslaught would be my first two ports of call, but I have to say Microworld does some nice stuff too. They have a sci-fi dinosaur riders range that'd stand in nicely for exodite eldar, along with bits and pieces like beastmen and 'spogres'.

Well, it looks like we're drawn to Vanguard/Onslaught just as their models look terrific. We've been studying the rules, and playing with list building as best as we understand it... and ballpark, it looks like about $150 needs to be spent, per 2000pts, per person, with, i'm told, 3000pts being a better sized game.

As a long time epic player and owner of 13 armies, you want to play 3k games but have more then that in points to change the list up a bit.
I usually build my 3k list then shop and buy for it then grab some extras later once I see how the 3k plays

That's roughly our plan. Originally we were going to do 2000pts a piece, but realized that was actually VERY small, and could result in very fast games. We're now thinking of doing 2500-3000pts each, of initial purchases and no flyers or war-engines/Titans, so we can add those later and still scale up.
Plus, I was planning to play Tau, who have no Titan equivalent anyway, so I figure we should learn the game well so I can answer anything my wife ends up bringing. Automatically Appended Next Post: Incidentally... a question for the informed...
Does anyone make 6mm Daemons? I see the Chaos Cultist list requires everything from Defilers to Plague-Bearers (and everything in between), but neither Onlsaught or Vanguard have anything even close.
Also... Necrons? I see a list, but again, no models or counts-as.

Trolls Under The Bridge have some possible Necron and Chaos proxies:
As for the Necron proxies: Immortals and Warriors.
As for Chaos, check out these Khornate bikers
Vanguard Miniatures have some Defiler proxies and figures that could be used for cultists. Then there is this Deathwheel daemon engine. Microworld Miniatures also has tons of interesting models which could be used for daemons and such. Through Vanguard Miniatures they've got some Beastmen and Minotaur proxies.

Along with all those mentioned (all great suggestions and massively suggest vanguard) check ebay.
It's a great source of old forumware models and you will find some 3rd party models there too.

Thanks for all these. We've got a few folks getting enthusiastic about joining us in Epic, so i'm trying to be informed about helping fill out their generally favorite armies.
So... was Warmaster 6mm? I assume it could be a source of Demon stuff too?

Well some of Onslaughts Stygian and Hellborn ranges would make for good Chaos units as well.
Also, here's another teaser for an upcoming release by Vanguard Miniatures. Automatically Appended Next Post: Jackal wrote:Unfortunately it's more 10mm than 6, so there is quite a size difference between the 2.

I've found warmaster units are a fair bit bigger than 6mm epic :(
The warmaster dwarves are actually fairly larger than epic marines and close to twice the size of epic squats.
The Lord of the rings battle of five armies stuff seems even bigger still lol.
I am however trying to hunt down a warmaster great unclean one to no avail :(
Certain models look perfect even if slightly bigger.

Well 10mm for beasties should be fine. Stuff like Bloodthirsters, etc give you more leeway, I suspect.
Right now i'm putting my shopping list together, and it really is amazing that you can build a healthy 2500+ points for $150 US or less. It makes giving this game a serious go, as a group, far more appealing.
Anyone have any good suggestions for Stormsurge or Tau'nar proxies? Everything else Tau has been 1:1 easy via Onslaught.

If you don't mind some work, I think it would be possible to build a tau'nar from stealth suit parts (40k) rail rifles and a few other scraps.
May even be able to use parts from the onslaught heavy rig for its head etc.

I've got some parts on the way to attempt a tau'nar myself, so if it goes OK I'll throw a quick guide on here.
Only model for tau that is an issue is the manta.
Not seen any good proxies and there is a proper one, but it's not cheap.
Aeronautica imperialis had a manta in the range but expect to pay for it.
Same as the orca really.

Welp... pulled the trigger. Wife and I ordered $440 worth of stuff, which makes up a full 3000pts of Tau, and another 3000pts of Dark Eldar, from Onslaught. We cut a couple corners as some stands that would normally want 5 models, will only get 4, to keep spending as low as we could, but NETEA rules say 3-5 models per stand, so I can live with that.
Can't wait to get some Epic going. The rules look incredible, and I have always pictured 40k in my head at this scale, not so much the one of the classic 1850pt game (even if that is my main gaming love).

Glad your running NETEA rules.
Netepic gold rules for tau lack a bit and are missing the newer things unfortunately.
Not to mention some of the units are a tad over priced for what you get.
I have found the moray to be nasty in both rule sets though, laying down silly amounts of fire power that help steady the over costed units a bit.

We went NETEA for sure, and I made sure we both had lists built out of the tournament approved lists AND with extra options from the unapproved lists. Like I bought not-Riptides for the Tau Vior'lu not-yet-approved-but-long-tested lists.

My wife, friend, and I are so excited to be playing that I am sure we'll give all manner of lists a try, and do plenty of proxy'ing regardless.
We ended up ordering from Onslaught as they were domestic so it cost a touch less, and they happened to have everything we wanted (outside of not-Devilfish which were sadly out of stock, but I bought not-Skyrays to use in that capacity for the time-being). My wife absolutely went head-over-heels for their Dark Eldar-ish line, so went with that as her primary army for the time being.
They shipped within 24hrs, and it should be arriving tomorrow/Tuesday (due to the holiday). We also Ebay'd a couple lots of 3d-printed 6mm scale buildings/ruins, which were dirt cheap, and definitely seem up to the task. I think 32 total buildings or ruined buildings w/bases, ran us $50 shipped.
I'll try to get pics for everything soon.

3k is perfectly fine for starting out but 4k is probably a better size, I had a 4k NetEA game yesterday that lasted just over 2 hours for a full 4 turns.
If you didn't buy bases they can be an issue but coins can be a very useful substitute (depending on your local coinage) . In the UK a 2p coin is 25mm in diameter and is perfect for use as infantry/bike bases as well as giving your tiny little men weight.

I don't know if there's distributors and retailers for Renedra in the US, but aside from the lack of epic-style 40x12mm strips, their bases are bleedin' brilliant. For reference, their square or rectangular bases are the ones packed with a lot of plastic historical kits - Perry, Warlord, etc.

For our bases I ended up just getting a mountain of the ones Onslaught sells. They're 25mm and "slotted" to accept five of their 6mm infantry.
I know the NetEA tournament pack says basing is pretty liberal, so I will probably use those, and stock 25mm bases for anything that will fit and look aesthetically pleasing. I might reduce some of the stands from 5 infantry to 3 in the cases of more elite infantry, but we'll see.
And moving up from here to 4k pts, etc... is totally doable. We omitted anti-air, and flyers altogether on purpose, just to start out, and have kept War Engines to a minimum for the time being. When we expand, it will be in those areas where the points will be much appreciated.
As it stands some of the local tournaments, like an upcoming big Epic event in Lancaster PA, play at 2500pts, which I find really interesting, as i'm told that is definitely on the quite-small side. I guess when you can't afford redundancies in your list, your tactical choices mean that much more.
