Can I take a regular boxy Dreadnought and a drop pod as its transport without using the Orbital Assault RoW? In the current Red Book, the Dreadnought entry says that it can take a Dreadnought Drop Pod, though the Drop Pod entry says that it can transport a dreadnought - which is correct? The Orbital Assault entry says dreadnoughts need to be in a Dread claw or a dreadnought drop pod.

If you're not using Orbital Assault ordinary Castaferrum ('normal'), Contemptor, and Contemptor-Cortus Dreadnaughts are allowed Dreadnaught Drop Pods as Dedicated Transports so long as you're taking them in one-vehicle talons, while Mortis Dreadnaughts and Contemptor-Mortis Dreadnaughts aren't. You're allowed to take Dreadclaw pods as Fast Attack choices and put more Dreadnaughts in them as well.

The normal Drop Pod is technically allowed to carry a Dreadnaught, but it's a moot point because you're never actually allowed to put Dreadnaughts in them. A normal Drop Pod is only available as a Dedicated Transport to other units, which means you can't deploy a Dreadnaught in it, and the Orbital Assault Rite only permits Dreadnaughts to use Dreadnaught and Dreadclaw pods (though it does allow you to take pods for full Talons).

So I suppose Forge World decided that 35pts to dump a Dreadnaught in the enemy's face was a bit cheap.

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.
