I have a question which has bugged me for awhile now, In the Space Marine Codex it states that one of the Relic Weapons, The Burning Blade, is possibly the Emperors Sword. Meanwhile in Rise of the Primarch, Papa Smu- I mean Roboute Guiliman wields the Emperors Sword. Could someone explain this to me?

Well, it was (and still is) possibly one of the Emperor's swords.

Given Big E could change size at will, I'd imagine that could also explain the size disparity (one being Primarch-sized, the other 'merely' Astartes-sized).

But regardless, they could both be the Emperor's sword - dude's an Emperor, he's bound to have more than one.

Another example is the Murder Sword in the Chaos Space Marines Codex. It's rumoured that it is the Anathame due to the deadly wounds that it causes. It might be the Anathame, or it could just be a really deadly sword. Unless it comes with a certificate of authenticity there isn't away of knowing for sure.

I guess in Guillimans case though it's likely that he would have the Emperors Sword

Its one of those fabled legends, likely based on ancient swords of legend such as Excalibur. Along the lines "This is a powerful sword, the most powerful in the chapter. *Whispers: Legend has it that THIS is the EXACT blade the Emperor used to kill Horus * But that's just a rumour"

Same with the aforementioned Murder Sword. It is doubtful its the Anathame as that was shattered in the many Athames, but it could be one of those. Belief has power in 40k, and if the wielder believes that their sword is actually THE legendary sword of X, they might fight better, confident in weapon's added power, or in awe of the weapon, and give a placebo effect as a result.

This. 1000x this. It's like one of my favorite quotes on a Magic:the gathering card. "Sword of Vengeance"
"When wielded by a true believer, it matters little whether the sword is a relic or a replica."

Space marine walks in holding a very killy looking flaming sword claiming to have the emperors sword for $50k. I'm not an expert so I call an expert. Expert says it's hard to tell if it is "the" emperor's sword but evaluates it at $6k at an auction and assures space marine just because he saw it online doesn't mean it's been sold for that much. I've got over head, I've got to frame it, and I'm a business. I offer $3k. You never know what's going to walk through that door
