So far, I have an

1 x Autarch with Swooping Hawk Wings
3 x Windriders with Scatter Lasers
10 x Guardian Defenders with a Scatter Laser Heavy Weapon Platform

I decided to add some elites to the army, so I picked up a box of Wraithguard today. Which would you recommend... Wraithguard or Wraithblades and why?

Thanks in advance!

It doesn't matter what the rest of the army looks like. You will always pick Wraithguard.

As Slayer-Fan said, Wraithguard generally speaking are much more useful than Wraithblades. The Eldar army, outside of using Raiders from Dark Eldar, doesn't have any assault transports which makes using Wraithblades very difficult as even with T6 forceshields (if you give it to them) they are only 1 wound each and footslogging means they are very susceptible to being gunned down in the current S6-7 spam meta.

By giving them a wave serpent, you're going to assault at best on T3 and even then their damage output is dramatically lower than wraithguard who can jump out of wave serpents to melt both chaff and elite units alike with their d-scythes or completely destroy single target units like tanks or LoW with their wraithcannons.

That's a really tough one and people go back and forth. In general, if you want to use them to wipe units with more than 5 models or lots of cover then you want D-Scythes. If you want to take down big prizes like Imperial Knights and Daemon Princes then you want Wraithcannons.

Thanks for the really quick response. Right now it'll be units with 5 models right now. So, I'll go with D-Scythes. This is for a slow-grow escalation league... if I want to destroy something big, I'll probably get another unit of them.

Thanks

The D scythe is amazing - you are going to need a waveserpant for them now. Typically we arm them with a TL Scatter Laser and a Shuriken cannon for the hull mount.

If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

The Wraithcannon works from a bit further away, can snapfire and/or crit if you're in a very tight spot, and does more to single-model targets, the D-Scythe is more reliable and works better against units. I wish you could mix them up (two scythes, three cannons), but you can't and the D-Scythe is good against more targets.

magnetize.

that way you can run wraithblades for fun sometimes but not as competitive. if you do DE allies they can be fun though.

that said if you want most competitive and do not wish to magnetize then Dscythes are the way to go. as stated your next purchase should be a wave serpant for them
