Hi folks,

Looking for some feedback/inspiration for a 1,000 point Nurgle Chaos Daemons list.

Aiming for friendly/competitive (i.e. I'm playing for fun, don't want to steamroller my mates or get tabled myself).

So far the lists I have are;

Cohort of Nurgle #1 (980 points)
Great Unclean One
Herald of Nurgle
Plaguebearers x10
Plaguebearers x10
Plaguebearers x10
Beast of Nurgle x4

Cohort of Nurgle #2 (960 points)
Great Unclean One
Herald of Nurgle
Plaguebearers x10
Plaguebearers x10
Plaguebearers x10
Plague Drones of Nurgle x3

Cohort of Nurgle...
* Benefits are Nurgle units inflict a mortal wound on a 6 in the hero phase for enemy non-Nurgle units within 1" and can re-roll saves of a 1
* Downside is the restrictive unit choices

Tallyband of Nurgle #1 (980 points)
Great Unclean One
Herald of Nurgle
Plaguebearers x10
Plaguebearers x10
Plaguebearers x10
Beast of Nurgle x4

Tallyband of Nurgle...
* Benefits are friendly multi-wound units gain d3 wounds back during the hero phase and Plaguebearers gain d3 models back in the hero phase if they are within 21" of the Great Unclean One.
* Downside is the restrictive unit choices & if the GUO dies the 100 point Warscroll Battalion is wasted (that's 10% of the available points!)

Other benefits - the Herald pimps the Beasts nicely though may struggle to keep up with their speed. Tough call I think between Beasts and Drones.

Or do I ditch the Battalion options and sink the 100 points into something else?

Pitched Battle Vanguard #1 (980 points)
Great Unclean One x2
Herald of Nurgle
Plaguebearers x20
Plaguebearers x20

Pitched Battle Vanguard...
* Benefits are GUO is pretty damned tough to kill, so two of them are tougher! The Herald pimps the Plaguebearer saves.
* Downside is this list is pretty slow

I intend to purchase some Chaos Mortals too at some point, but for now it's a pure Daemon army.

Any thoughts on what people have found works are appreciated..

Where are the rules/points for the cohort of nurgle? I have never heard of that battalion before. Other then that, I would rather have 3 plague drones instead of 4 beasts... in pretty much every instance. The beats a nice as a summon unit where you can contest or attack an objective. Harassment unit.. but they are far to random for me. I would ditch the tallyband for 1000 points and take a 30 man unit of plaguebeaers, have the herald babysit them, have another ten man unit and get plaguedrones instead of the beasts

Also if your looking for allies, Clans Pentilens make great allies with nurgle demons!

The last couple of pages in the Chaos Daemon Warscrolls contain four formations, one cohort for each of the Chaos gods.

Thanks for the advice.

I would start with the cohort list (with the drones) and if you find that not to be powerful enough switch to the vanguard list but drop the herald of nurgle and use plaguebearers x30, x10, x10 . In general, don't use the herald of nurgle unless you want to tone things back or need it to meet requirements as it simply isn't worth 100 points (and locus effects are now triggered by any daemon hero of the appropriate god). Beasts of Nurgle are outshined by Plague Drones at the moment, since they both serve as fast-ish melee units but the drones are more resilient, faster, and have a small ranged attack (and an icon).

You may find my thread on building a nurgle army helpful.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

Thanks NinthMusketeer, you have given me plenty to consider.

Can I ask;

* What's the thinking behind Plaguebearer units sizes x30, x10, x10 - my assumption is the 30 strong unit swamps opponents and the smaller just meet minimum requirements?

* Where did the GW change the locus effects please as I haven't been able to find this? (I am assuming it must be a book I don't own but wouldn't be helpful to know)

Yes on the plaguebearers; 30 is the most efficient point-wise while 10 meets requirements (if you are interested in the details it's in the plaguebearers section of my thread). The locus change was in the Grand Alliance books, though unfortunately a large number of the warscrolls weren't updated in the app.
