As a STD player after seeing Slambo I wanted to order him but...
After reading the rules for Slambo, I am not sure anyone would want to play him except for the nostalgia and he looks cool factor... Seems like he does not pack enough punch and does not give any buffs either... Especially if you are going to compare him with the Chaos lord or characters like Wulfrik he is going to be underwhelming...
They should have at least given him a -2 rend on the charge or something that if he slays a model, models of a certain type or within a certain range got a boost or something like that. at least boost something more then just himself... or a mark of one (or all) of the gods or the possibility to mark him so that you can easily boost him... or something (more) special really...
Now he is cool in an extremely fluffy environment (and even then I would not run him or use him as a lord) because he remains a foot slogging not really a big threat not giving buffs and probably a waste of points in any even slightly competitive environment...
I mean, what is the chance of him ever killing a hero or monster without having to coordinate your entire army to the point where he can arrive and finish the job? I know my slaves to darkness army is way to fast for him to keep up and in slower lists he would need to give a serious buff to be worth those 80 pts...
Or am I missing something?

Nope, you aren't missing anything. You have a pretty good summary right there.

He is a quite like the exalted deathbringer and the silver tower marauder.
Maybe their places are narrative games.

Exalted deathbringer has a command ability and if you do not use him as your generals gains extra attacks when near the general so he is a bodyguard and playable in a narrative.
The darkoath chieftain has at least the mortal wound on every unit within 1 " if he slays a model and the Quest for glory thing that makes him great in a narrative campaign. You can build him up slashing through hordes of zombies with his marauders until he becomes really bad ass...
There is a hint of useability there. Ok only when not highly pitched competitive. For Slambo there is no way you can choose him above the exalted deathbringer which is a lot better, even the darkoath chieftain seems a better choice for a narrative.

Slambo is Legendary Killer, that might be something. He seems very Khorneish.

No you're pretty much right. In a min/max environment he really has no place. I find most of GW's stuff is for a narrative environment.

Well to play him in that way, a mark of Khorne would have been a minimum to let him get some cool synergies or buffs. Now he has no mark. Which gives him as good as no place...

yes, but they could have bothered to create some basic Slaves to darkness synergy. Or give it some funny or wacky rules if it is intended for a narrative, at that point I would not care about the rest of its rules and add him for the fun... I get the feeling they could have tried a little bit harder for such a cool model.
Well, he can still be us as a normal lord I guess... Automatically Appended Next Post:

I don't think he is intended for matched play at all, really. But last time GW released an obviously narrative warscroll without points (White Dwarf) people were up in arms about it.
