So I've played Tau, IG and CSM but I want to do something different than the gun-line armies I always seem to do.

So Ive decided I think Id try loyalist Space Marines this time specifically Blood Angels since theyre a bit more in your face and less gun line.

Its a pretty simple list either CAD or Baal Strike Force Detachment (Leaning the latter) I have 22 points left over that Im not sure what to do with. I was thinking some extra gear for the Assault Marines, meltabombs or a power sword\axe.

HQ – Death Company Chaplain [Considered replacing him with a Librarian but he didnt fit the list as well]

If you are going with 10 man tac squads, throw in combi-flamers.

Thats a good idea, is the Combi-Flamer a better option than the Hand Flamer?

Well, it's a much stronger weapon, and there's a good chance your sarge won't last more than one turn.

How much of a chance do you want your Sergeant to stand in a challenge? A BA Tactical Sergeant can be decently dangerous when given combat weapons, and considering that you'll probably want to take advantage of Furious Charge I'd say CCW and Hand Flamer.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Ill probably try both but I'm leaning hand-flamer + CCW because of Furious Charge and +1 Initiative if Im using the Baal Strike Force.

The big issue there is that you won't get to charge. BA have a glaring weakness to bullets and being charged, at which point they become plain old marines with no chapter tactics.

One of our best units is the "fragioso dread" in a pod, so I would try to get one of your pods dedicated to one of those, even if it means downgrading the tacticals. Also tacticals suck. Even if you do land in a good spot and sneak in an unlikely charge with an unhurt unit of them, 2 ws 4 swings at s5 and no ap doesn't do a lot. As above, more than likely they will just get charged if shooting them to death, and to give you a decent idea of how mediocre tac marines are in melee, they barely win the hypothetical combat where they get charged by equivalent points of tau fire warriors. The marines will down two dudes while the tau drop 1.66 marines, which means a lot of the time the combat would be a tie, except that they lost two 9 point dudes compared to your two 14 point dudes.

The long and short of that is: if you want to make a stronger list, get away from using anything over the bare minimum of tacticals. If in using them to fill pods, I take 5 with a heavy flamer and move on.

That sucks :\

Ok so if I dropped the Tactical Squads down to 5 I could fit the Frag in with a Drop pod, I just worry it leaves me light on bodies, but if Tac squads are mediocre not much of an option.

The best CC tac squads are 6 man angel's blade squads with a vet sarge with a powersword/lightning claw. But that requires angel's blade.

Im not opposed to the Angels Blade (or for that matter any of the BA other formations) but from what I remember (dont have the book on me right now) it would be almost if not impossible to fit it into 1000 points.

Also I own no Devastators or Dreadnoughts at the moment, although the Furioso is on my to get list because of how good Ive heard it is.

No not at 1k pts. I was just being informative.

Actually that's only 978 points with the upgrades you have mentioned. Assuming that you have equipped your furioso dreadnought with heavy flamer and frag cannon.

That means that you could squeeze in another ablative wound on the bike squad. You lack one single point for getting the ablative for your DC, but there's really no points to get it.

Your list is competitive enough to field it and get battle experience to know where you want to go with your army.
