So the "Might of the ancient" Rite of War makes you use a Master of the Forge and an Primus Medicae.
That's two out of two HQ slots.
But you need a master of the legion (Preator, Primarch, Delegatus) to be able to choose a Rite of War at all.

So how can I use this Rite of War?

Please correct my english. I won't get any better if you don't.

You have three hq slots in 30k

Also a primarch can be master of the legion in a LOW slot

Not to mention that there are occasionally Special Characters that are senior Consuls with Master of the Legion, so if you had such a character you could fill your Forge Lord/Primus Medicae requirements and have an HQ slot left over.

(Disclaimer: Erebus and Kor Phaeron are the only characters I've found that actually do this, and neither one is a Forge Lord or Primus Medicae, so you're stuck using all three slots (or two and the Primarch) unless some new character comes out that is (or the Iron Hands/Iron Warriors characters with Master of the Legion and Battlesmith get FAQed to fill the Forge Lord requirement in Rites of War).)

Balanced Game: Noun. A game in which all options and choices are worth using.

The problem with the RoW is the fact that each dreadnought gives up an additional VP, making it virtually impossible to win with unless your opponent only takes S5 and lower weapons in their whole list.

as was pointed out: you have 3 HQ slots and 4 elite slots in 30k, not 2 and 3 respectivley

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

You have to get creative. Contemptor/Deredeo-Pavise gunlines with a 4+ Invulnerable save against shooting attacks, that sort of thing.

Oh I'm sure there's ways to make it work, but in an objective scenario without KP you're just going to start feeding the enemy KPs.

Just an annoying drawback compared to other RoWs where typically you just have restrictions to the units available.

A number of the generic RoW have similar drawbacks, Pride of the Legion, Armored Spearhead, Chosen Warriors, Primarch's Chosen, just to name some.

They tend to give a VP for killing everything as opposed to one per unit killed.

Yes, there's a huge distinction between the VPs you give up in every other list.

Even Primarch's Chosen is not an auto lose if your primarch dies, unless you're trailing on objectives to start with, but in a KP game it doesn't even matter.

There's no instance where MotA's drawback isn't a huge burden.

I think this represents a big difference between GW's and FW's game design philosophies. 40K: "Do whatever! Go crazy! Army of nothing but dreadnoughts? Why not!" 30K: "Hmm, you want to try that? Well, go ahead, if you dare!"

Hell it could be worse. You could be Blackshield outlanders and have your 20-man marauder squad + your reaver lord suddenly disappear cause you failed a LD test...

Well, there's restrictions and drawbacks to all of the Rights of War... and then there's the drawback to MotA...

I'm just saying that it's not in line with the other RoWs by a long shot.

Why not just make more list restrictions/forced unit buy-ins vs making it fundamentally disadvantageous. Do the think scoring Dreadnoughts are that good?

The worst thing is, that once you have your scoring dreadnoughts, taking other types of dreadnoughts is a disadvantage.

You may as well just take two other troop, and fill out your elite slots with dreads. You can take more dreads, and it's a better list.
