Somewhere off in the mist comes the sound of creaking timber and leather, accompanied by a low wind and the first traces of a stink of dessication and decay. As the wind buffets the fog into damp shreds, shambling figures begin to appear in the middle distance - some as big as a man, some of them much larger, hulking forms.
The shuffling becomes a rhythmic marching as ancient tendons and rotting muscles keep time and hurry the dead towards you through the swamp. Behind the giant humanoid forms now appears something still bigger, fouler, and more ancient - an armoured rider slumped in the saddle of the huge, decaying wyrm as its ragged head seeks to feed on the flesh before it...
Fenris Games have been producing scenery and miniatures for tabletop gaming for 9 years now as well as working with other creators on renowned projects such as Cthulhu Wars. We're a two-man band of professional modelmakers with 30+years background in industrial, museum, architectural, film & TV work who now focus those skills on models for your wargames and RPGs, and we work with a huge pool of freelance sculptors to create the kind of models we use for our own tabletop.
We're creating a small range of heroic scale (28mm) white metal and resin undead miniatures for your dark-age armies - including a huge zombie dragon centrepiece model. Kickstarter will allow us to make production moulds for all of these models and will ultimately lead to a widening range of minis and scenery to suit these settings. Sculptors Jo Brumby and Tim Prow (lead sculptors on Cthulhu Wars) have already sculpted all of the models included in the basic pledges - and will add more all-new sculpts if we hit our stretch goals.

The undead dragon tempted me, but the pose could be improved. When it's on the base it looks like it is supporting itself by its head?

Update #3 - They Have a Cave Troll
Quick update in response to questions here and elsewhere on forums: troll pics.
Jo's original greens are a particularly dark mix of green/brown putty that doesn't photograph well, but I've done my best here to tweak the contrast and show you more of the detail on the three of them. If I get chance in the current casting schedule I'll try and get resin copies in a more photogenic material for a future update.
Trolls - master sculpts
Meanwhile - I'm trying to decide whether to have an early reveal of some of the hidden, new add-ons. Do we push now for the earliest stretch goal, or save everything for a shove at the end? Long story short, there's more infantry (with a celtic flavour, but still of a dark ages vibe) and a character or two, as well as some unseen scenery pieces. But you wouldn't want to see any of them, would you ?

Update #4 - Kiss My Axe
Hey Deadites, welcome to Thursday's update !
I've just sneaked a new add-on to the main campaign scroll, with WIP pictures of another genuine Oldhammer sculptor's work - say hi to Chaz Elliott, alumni of industry giants such as Games Workshop and Wizards of the Coast as well as smaller fry like Fenris and Diehard
Chaz is working on a set of six more draugr infantry with something of a celtic vibe about them - to represent hero and command models.
Grab these with any pledge for an extra £22 - or take them as part of your NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD pledge for no extra cost.
Keep sharing the campaign wherever your digital footprints take you - I'd love to get these stretch goals unlocked
- Ian

In love with this Kickstarter, my dream army! Raised my pledge to include the celts, and it's now basically ALL THE THINGS!

This is fantastic, and I love Fenris's work in general -- I have some of their scenery pieces. Bit frustrated that my favourite minis in it -- the draugr and draugr chiefs -- are add-ons rather than available as pledge levels. But I'll see how my finances look next week when I know what's up with my car, and I will definitely pledge for some of this...

this update was marked backers only which I normally wouldn't re-post, but there seems to be nothing at all confidential so enjoy
Welcome all, backers new and old. We're into the last handful of days and I'd love to squeeze a stretch goal or three out of this little campaign - and would especially like to see Grendel unlocked. Every share on facebook really does help (most of the traffic and backers to this project seem to have found their way here from there) but whether you're sharing on Twitter, instagram, or pigeon post it really will help us get to the bog-beast.
I'd hoped to be further along with these new add-ons but the last couple of days have seen the need to recalibrate the workshop laser cutter and to sort out a hundred other small chores around the place. Meanwhile I have managed to make production moulds for the first couple of resin pieces from the campaign, so casting fulfilment ahead of actual completion can begin. I'd dearly love to deliver this KS ahead of schedule, and every shortcut I can take towards that goal will help !
I've now updated the main campaign crawl with WIP pics of not only the promised CAIRNS add-on (Six assorted rock burial markers littered with human and animal skulls, and assorted sacrificial offerings) but also two smaller sets:
1) TOTEMS are 25mm-based resin markers that work as standalone pieces or can be mounted onto a standard 30mm slottabase to differentiate them from "normal" terrain. These include a skull, troll, willendorf venus, auroch, armour and duck* - each featuring a focus totem object surrounded by stakes and defensive spikes.
2) TREASURES are randomly-sized resin markers on standalone rocky paving ideal for dungeon crawls, or in tabletop games such as Frostgrave, There are six different objectives in this set, which feature chests, weapons, armour, coins, sacks and more.
There's still at least one more add-on I'm desperately trying to get to a stage worthy of a photograph, and thanks to the mighty painting engine Paul Sanderson from Here Be Goblins ( https://www.facebook.com/Here-Be-Goblins-600233360069811/?fref=ts) I'll also have some painted pics of at least a couple of the trolls and beastmen to show you before the campaign's up. Last but not least, Chaz is being pestered on a daily basis to show us new WIP pics of the command set - hopefully those will be here very soon, too.
Thanks, again, to all of you here for backing and especially for staying the course. Every KS has dropouts but they're felt most keenly on these smaller projects; each and every one of you contributing here is genuinely helping keep Fenris alive to produce more of this kind of stuff for the future
Finally for this update: is there anything I've missed from the add-ons you'd like to have seen in this campaign? Specific, themed scenery? Different bases? Let me know in the comments and I'll see what can be done in the time left !
- Ian @ Fenris
* yes, a duck totem. They're the Draugr of Duck Marsh, remember ! Those of you who follow me on FB or Twitter will know I'm a huge RQ/gloranthophile and will do my utmost to squeeze duck references in just about anywhere. If you want to see the making of a demo game section of the Duck Marsh we built for Salute and other tradeshows, Jo's timelapse video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vivr7rYuOVs&t=319s And there'll be more from Duck Marsh and Ducktown later this
year ....

Update #7 - It it bleeds, we can kill it.
Afternoon all - and welcome along you new backers
Just a quick update to keep the fires stoked: Paul's managed to get paint on a couple of the test resins so you can see more of the detail and get an idea of just how these models will look on your tabletops.
Meanwhile....keep sharing. Stretch Ghoul, sorry Goal #1 is tantalisingly close....

Update #8 - Stretch Ghouls
Morning all, let's join (rotting) hands together for the final push.... I'd like to believe we can still hit at least one of the stretch goals, and maybe, just maybe, unlock that Grendel model. Throughout the campaign the famed marsh-demon seems to have been the most popular wishlist item and in retrospect perhaps should've been the first, rather than second stretch goal.
So, to try and realise those hopes and to counter some of the painfully felt dropped pledges this week, I'm moving the stretch targets. We're currently only around £750 away from the first Stretch total, so I'm dropping the ALL YOUR BASE target and moving the other three goals up one place apiece. In other words, we now need to hit £7.5k for the Grendel unlock, £10k for the HEAVY CAVALRY, and £12.5k for the BAREBACK WYRM.
I appreciate that the mid-month timing of this campaign has also been an issue for some, but please bear in mind that backers at any level will be able to add items post- KS through backerkit - up to and including the dragon kit.
Last piece of news for this Update - I've also added WIP pics of the remaining three TOTEMS to the relevant section of the campaign scroll; pics reproduced below for reference. All of these are based on 25mm discs that work as standalone pieces or will fit most 30mm slottas if you prefer your objectives to have a visible plinth or edge. They range in height from 25 to 32mm. Hope these help persuade a few of you to bump us closer to Grendel !
Hold on tight, let's see if we can drag these shambling corpses out of Duck Marsh !
- Ian
Automatically Appended Next Post: GRENDEL UNLOCKED !
Thanks to a couple of new revenants and to several of you increasing your pledges we've just hit the first stretch ghoul of the campaign, unlocking the huge Grendel kit. You can add him to your pledge for £35 - and, indeed, can buy him as a standalone pledge at that price if he's the piece you've been waiting for
Keeping as much momentum as our scabrous, rotting corpses will allow, here's a teaser pic for the next stretch goal: Tim's made a start on the first of the heavy cavalry, shown below. Note that this is a WIP and that the rider is one of the existing set of four standard cavalry; Tim will be adding more barding and accoutrements to the four different mounts if we actually hit this stretch target.
Thanks again for hauling our corpses up through the muck and onto that first stretch goal.... really looking forward to moulding & casting Grendel up for you all now....
- Ian
