Is it possible to take rites of war for allied detachments of marines if an hq that allows for rites of war to be taken is used? I can't find anything on this from a google search and a look through my books. Was wondering this as an allied detachment would be an excellent work-around for RoW force org restrictions and it would be nice if the allied detachment could take a RoW as well.
I was also wondering if the other force org charts from the red books could be taken as allied detachments as well, as I also can't find anything on this.

So in the Age of Darkness you don't get to mix and match detachments or take extra detachments the way you do in normal 40k. You've got one Age of Darkness FOC, and that's it.

I don't have specific backing from the rules for this interpretation, but I've always read Rites of War as applying to the detachment they're taken in only, so if you want a Rite in your allied detachment you have to pass the 2,000pt threshold for including an additional character with the Master of the Legion rule.

Wouldn't it be possible to have such character in just the allied detachment? (say there's no ROW you want for main detachment that doesn't also prevent you from taking allied detachment in the first place)

In theory you can have an allied detachment with a ROW. The latest rules specifically detail that you can have one MOTL in the primary and one in the allied at 2k points army total.

One way I have come up with that is allied detachment with orbital drop. Bit easier to have just few drop pods.

Though can you use allied detachment with same guys as main detachment? No problem in 40k but whatabout 30k?

No... Fairly sure..

I mean, the rules say you have to select an allied detachment based on the allied chart, which doesn't have an option for self allying (unlike 40k)

Oh. Well there went that plan. Back to knights as allied detachment.

You can only use 1 force organisation chart and cant take an allied detachment of your own army unfortunatly. Its quite strange in that given the way it works you actually shouldnt be able to take mechanicum with knight allies or knights with mechanicum or varitation of and you cant take solar auxilia with imperial army allies either.

...Last I checked Questoris, Taghmata, Solar Auxilia, and Militia/Cults were separate lists.

More to the point there isn't strictly speaking a rule that you can't have an allied detachment from the same list (or the same faction), the FAQ says you can't have an allied detachment from the same Legion. As a point of consistency I'd suggest playing as if you can't use an allied detachment from the same list unless you're running a different set of large-scale army-wide rules for the allied detachment (i.e. generic Taghmata allied with Legio Cybernetica) and you've got significantly different models/different paint scheme, but rules-as-written you can totally take a Solar Auxilia allied detachment in a Solar Auxilia army.

(I did find the FAQ clarification specifying that Rites don't carry over from primary to allied detachments and you can have a Rite in an allied detachment if you have a Master of the Legion in its HQ slot.)
