What would you take and how would you use them? Would they be a character challenger? A unit buffer (If so what unit are you taking them with)? A troop killer?
Keep points efficiency in mind.
Off the top of my head, I would go for a NightLord DP with wings, DoT, Stormbolt Plate, Black Mace, Talons of the Night Terror and Curze's Orb. This would make him pretty much invulnerable to ranged damage shy of ignore cover grav cents, with rerollble 2+ cover and rerollable 2+ armour. He would still be as vulnerable to st10 in assault though and non st10 units like smashf*cker, RP Wraiths (over time), D weapons etc. He would have 6+2d6 st6 ap2 WS9 I8 attacks on the charge, always wounding on a 2+ (aside from the d6 Talons attacks if opponent is T5 or better), rerolling all failed to wounds, rerolling failed to hits of 1 and also have the unit wrecking advantage of the Black Mace. He rocks in at 305pts. Had considered Mastery Levels but going for points efficiency and 2 rolls on Biomancy is too unreliable. Might include the Burning Brand for an extra 30pts so he has a good ranged damage output too.
So I've gone for a unit wrecker not an ultimate challenge monster. Whilst there are units he can't deal with, he will decimate the majority. Head to head, Smashf*cker would rip him a new one and can also deal with more targets, but the DP will be more effective against the majority of units and will usually pick where he fights.
I'm sure there are tons of even better combos avaliable. So what would you pick if there were no limits on relics for characters? And why?
