A question posed to the group:

I'm a big fan of Rhinos overall (have tons of them I use for a number of different armies). Seeing in 30k the pintle-mount option I want to start magnetizing on them, however I'd like to know what you all feel is the best option to pintle-mount on a rhino.

Currently I'll be using the mount for my Dark Angel Rhinos as well as my Imperial Militia Survivors of the Dark Age rhinos.

I know it's a cliche, but I think the multi-melts is probably the only option that really makes it a viable shooty vehicle.

Everything else is a variant on 'more bolter shots' which might be useful if you have some spare points left over, but not something that will make a huge amount of difference thaw you use the vehicle.

Yeah , pintle multi meltas feel like the best option.
Better in armoured breakthrough where rhinos are fast.

Side question on pintle mounting. In the book I'm not sering where it allows multi melta. I do have an older version though. Where does it have multi meltas as an option?

It's in the newer books. Pintle options also got cheaper in most cases.

Pintle Multi-meltas Rhinos in an Ironwing RoW would be entertaining and effective.

I know it's frowned soon by most 30k players but I put Heavy Bolters on my Rhinos. It's cheap and if you're running a mechanized list all those heavy bolters start to add up.

...Not sure why you'd frown on this, I do it all the time. Heavy bolters are mediocre individually and effective in quantity, and I tend to have heavy-weapon Tactical Veterans using the Rhinos as bunkers so having the extra range lets them actually contribute.

HB's are a good option. Can Dark Angels take those acid rounds on vehicle HBs? If so I would definitely recommend them.

If I have spare points I like them on my IW Rhinos, since my tac squads typically sitting on objectives taking pot shots at stuff anyways.

MM are also a good option. Anyone that says everyone takes Armored Ceramite is wrong, most cheaper vehicles and dreadnoughts do not take this upgrade.

HF are situational. I would suggest them for Marksman Veterans, who should also be equipped with a pair of HF's on top of that.

I see a lot of people say HB's are worthless in 30k. I'm a fan of them and they're cheap enough to throw on Rhinos that's it's a no brainer to me.

This option works especially well for Iron Warriors players cause we can get Shrapnel Bolts on em for free. Suddenly you get a ton more pinning checks you can spread around your opponents army lol!

This is what I do! Though I haven't yet been able to model it. Need to find a glut of assault cannons that don't cost a ton.

As a heavy user of thallax cohorts, i fething hate heavy bolters. They're like wasps - they hurt a lot (4+ to wound thallax and ignore their armour) but you have to ignore them for greater threats. Its always a pisser having to grin and bear the HBs knowing they can and might take a thallax each per turn.

Heavy bolter teams can be as big a threat to a thallax cohort as a lone vindicator.

Seems like a Dark Angels IronWing list would love heavy bolters with the acid shells upgrade.... 3 S5 shots with a 50% chance to ignore armor is nothing to sneeze at!

Except only models with LA: Dark Angels and Dreadnaughts can have them, not their tanks.
