Subject: Dakka (Unofficial) Painting Challenge Round 26 April 2017: Primal
I'm baaaack! Thanks again to ZoBo for very kindly stepping in to run this last month when I couldn't.
Welcome all to the 25th round of the Unofficial Painting Challenge here on Dakka. For anyone who's unfamiliar with the format, this is a simple community challenge open to anyone on Dakka, the aim of the game being to paint a model or set of models relating to the month's theme and win points for doing so!
This month's theme is 'Primal'. As such, your entry should be a model or models that have a savage, animal, primitive or fierce vibe to them, for example a savage orc, a feral Wulfem, any sort of nature themed mini like a beastman or some Sylvaneth. As always, the theme is open to interpretation, so do go wild (pun unashamedly intended!) with your entries and be as creative with it as you like!
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 5 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 4 images and one separate image would count as your 5 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of April and will end at midnight GMT on the 30th of April. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

After the fun I had with my HeroQuest player characters last year, I'll be entering a triumvirate of HeroQuest greenskins. An Ork, a Goblin and a Fimir.
Previously painted and looking pretty awful, they've already been stripped and are ready to go!
Dark Angels/Deathwing - just getting started!
Space Marines - Stark Crusaders 4500pts/PL244 (2700pts painted)
Eldar - Biel Tan 2000pts
Space Wolves 1500pts

there was a particular model I wanted to paint for this, but I don't have it, and wouldn't you know it, GW's out of sodding stock here at the moment...so now I'm trying to decide between 3-4 other possible options I've got...hmm...decisions decisions...think I'll take a bit more time to think about this one...or I may just post a proof with all of them in it, and enter finals of whichever one I like best at the end of the month...we'll see
...it's good to be green!

I'd like to enter this month, with the Avatar of Ynnead, the Yncarne...
It's the avatar of a god of death, how much primal can you get?

I had a bit of a think about my few potential entries, and decided the other couple didn't fit the theme quite as well as I'd like, so I'll save those to fit into future months themes ...decided to do a nice little fun mini diorama this month - I bought "The Chase" set from GW several months ago (oh wow...glad I did! - I just checked and I can't find it anymore! )...it's a little squig, being chased by a night goblin, being chased by a bigger squig ...I'd had my eye on it for a couple of years, and randomly added it on to an order I made a while back because I just wanted to paint it someday...and now seems like a good time!...it seems like a pretty good interpretation of "primal" to me, with the whole survival of the fittest/food chain thing
here's my proof:
...it's good to be green!

This is a project I've been wanting to do for a while now. To make some meganobz from orruk brutes.. they may look a little under-armoured but the brutes are great models.
unboxing
then a little conversion work

Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

Next up to be represented from the Villains of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command is Wirewolf. It doesn't get much more primal than a Space Ranger who is turned to a werewolf.
