I know they aren't the most competitive choice, but how do you like running breachers?

They look awesome, and their shields are perfect for some freehand.

If it helps I am playing Word Bearers.

Breachers are for locking down an area of the map and for foiling charges.

They're best taken in a LR Proteus to provide the firepower they lack.

WB are a good mix for them due to your solid leadership rules.

Ideally you get them up onto a mid-field objective, hunker down and chip away at the enemy with them.

Also remember Kine-Shields. A unit of Thousand Sons Raptora-Cult Breachers standing in front of a pavise Deredeo has a 4+ Invulnerable save against shooting attacks, which almost makes the added expense worthwhile.

And if you're playing a smaller game you can get special weapons on them (particularly graviton guns) without burning your Rite on Chosen Duty or Pride of the Legion (if you happen to want it for, say, Stone Gauntlet...), plus you've got void-hardened armour for when the Shred flamers come knocking in Zone Mortalis.

Breachers may not be competitive, but that doesn't mean you can't do fun things with them.

Thanks everyone!

What weapons do you prefer on them?

Oh, graviton, all the way. It may only wound Marines on 5+ but it'll take a hull point off any vehicle in existence on a 2+, drop the other guy's charge distance, and make him roll Dangerous Terrain on vehicles. Not there for killing but it'll slow down and tangle up the enemy, which is sort of the point of Breachers. Give the killy units time to get into position/do killy things while the enemy is tied up trying to get through/around these annoying donkey-caves in shieldwall. (Graviton is hard/expensive to get (usually it requires expensive Elites choices (you know, Rapiers, Dreadnaughts...)), so having it on Troops is convenient and helpful.)

Better still if you're using Morturg or the Alpha Legion/Raven Guard and they're just camping an objective on turn one without a care in the world, thumbing their nose at attempts to do something about them. (If you do this you don't have the toughest Breachers around (that honour goes to the Imperial Fists/Iron Hands with T5 and the Thousand Sons with 4++), but they're stuck straight in the other guy's face right away and they buy a lot of space/attention to let the rest of your forces to get up the field.)
