So it must be that time of year again we start to get some inside info, sprue pic leaks or at least some information on this years box set?

What's everyone's thoughts on the box contents?

Units included?
Legions?
Armour Mks?


I can see there being Mk5 or Mk6 armour marines, plastic assault marines or boarding marines, scimitar jetbikes & characters of Raven Guard / Death Guard.. or maybe, just maybe we might see a Mk1C Deimos Pattern Rhino

I thought they said no more boxed heresy games were being made?

I hadn't heard this and why would they not release another on how popular the last two had been? Easy money maker for them and a chance to get another wave of new players into the game

I don't imagine they'll do much more, but I would gak my pants if a boxed game came out with proper Mk6 squads. That's all I want.

Only a couple Legions had MK VI Corvis Pattern armor during the Heresy. IIRC, only the Alpha Legion, and the Raven Guard had it?

The Horus Heresy box sets have all been based on famous battles of the Heresy, and usually to kick off new Legions or new plastic models. For Calth, it was Ultramarines and the latest release of the Word Bearer rules, the new plastic MK IV armor, and the plastic Contemptor Dreadnought. Basically, everything from Book VI of the Horus Heresy. Prospero had the new MK III plastic kit, Sisters of Silence, and Custodes. It showcased Book VII of the Horus Heresy. If they continue this trend, then the next box set will be something to do with Book VIII, which is supposed to be Dark Angels, Blood Angels, White Scars, and Dark Mechanicum. I could totally see GW going with a new plastic Space Marine Bike, or maybe Jet Bike, as DA and WS were known to use both of them, and the box set might be DA or WS vs. Dark Mechanicum. Plastic Thallax yes please!

There's been a ton of threads on this over the past 6 months in the 30k section. From what I've seen, it seems like most people speculate (since we have absolutely no rumors or anything to go off of) the next box will either be Mk II or Mk VI. The boxes provide a way to make 30k more popular and prevalent as well as get tons of more tactical marine sales by people who likely already have enough of the 40k versions. A MK II box could feature 2 legions that used the mark often (DA and...?). A MK VI box would in all likelihood be RG vs AL, which considering their popularity could sell quite well.

In the end, all we can do is wait. But based on the first two, we can likely expect a large amount of normal marines that haven't been produced before (Mk II, Mk VI, breachers), a couple specialty units (bikes would be great for RG/AL), and possibly a small unit of another faction (Again, militia would work great for a RG/Al box. Can someone say shadow wars?)

I imagine it might be a bit before we see another HH box set. With 8th coming up soon, I would expect there's a starter box for that and they'll want to pump that up before more HH box sets that could potentially take sales away from the gleaming new 8th ed starter.

I don't think that would be their concern to be honest, people would either buy them or not eventually. I think it more has to do with the rule differences for now.

I think mk3 and mk4 armour were relatively easy to sell, both looked great. Likewise the terminators, contemptor and the custodes. Not sure many would be interested in the other marks. A mechanicus box however, or a board game themed around jump units.

Phall! Boarding marines, more terminators, zone mortalis terrain!

They could still easily bring out HH boxes for total profit. Awesome opportunity to release FW marks in plastic and bring in easy bucks from Marine players who literally have no more room for Mark 7 in their forces.

Dark Angels vs Night Lords or Death Guard for Mk 2
Raven Guard vs Alpha Legion for Mk6
something vs World Eaters for Mk5

Other possible includes: Jetbikes/Bikes, Boarding Marines

The battle of Phall would sell like hot cakes.
