Just out of curiosity, does anyone use color schemes from the Horus Heresy for their Warhammer 40,000 models? Because there are some color schemes from the Horus Heresy I like better than their current 40,000 versions one example would be the Alpha Legion. Although I'm not a big fan of them, I would be lying if I said I didn't like their color scheme escpecially the Horus Heresy era. (If I ever make a Horus Heresy army it would either be Dark Angels or Alpha Legion.)

I use Heresy-Era models for Alpha Legion, as well as their color scheme. Even my terminators are Tartaros Terminators.

IMHO, it looks much better. Plus, those upgrade kits are sexy.

Kind of sad that GW hasn't incorporated more Heresy models into the plastic line.

Wanna see a picture of one of my Kill Team guys for Shadow War?

World eaters should have never changed scheme IMO.
While it's a bitch to pull the scheme off well, it looks amazing when done right on them.

Shame they just went red though :(

Recipe:

Primed in Chaos Black
Based in Stegadon Scale Green
Highlighted (drybrushed) with Sotek Green
Shaded with Drakenhof Nightshade
Trim is done with Leadbelcher, with very, very light Ironbreaker on the edges.
The 'Hyrdra', however, is done with Castellan Green with a light touch of Warpstone Glow to give it a 'jade' look.
Go over it all with Anti-Shine Varnish from Army Painter.

Yeah, using Heresy-era colour schemes is absolutely fine, and even fluffy in many respects. It's far more acceptable, I've found, to use 30k colour schemes in 40k than 40k colour schemes in 30k.

My 'narrative' for the Alpha Legion warband that I use is that they've been on the fringes of the galaxy since the tail end of the Heresy, and have had minimal contact with the remnants of their legion. In the last few centuries, they've been branching out and doing recon with oath-bonded houses and organizations that existed prior to the Heresy.

I am a big fan of the Sons of Horus, but I think they have a terrible paint scheme. Although, the Luna Wolves wasn't bad. If I was to play 30K I would still play Sons of Horus, but I think I go for Black Legion colors early. That's my 30K cannon.

As for actual Horus Hersey legion colors, I really like the Dark Angels. I think space marine power armor looks really good in black.

With my 30k Iron warriors, I do my chevrons in black and yellow. Any 40k that I do, I'll do them yellow and black. That's about as much variation as we get.

Personally I love the EC purple/Gold colour scheme, it's bloody gorgeous. I like the World Eaters scheme too.
