Just looking into this as a possibility.

Would a Doubles team of Harlequins and Space Marines have potential? Is there an aspect of one that the other can support and enhance? Ideally, we're looking at 1000 points on each end, totalling 2000 altogether.

Keep the Marines shooty oriented, but fast if possible so they can advance and provide cover for the Harlies.
Make the Harlies melee as counter assault units.

You have to make sure they stay close. If the Harlies are isolated, they will just get shot and die.

tournament level.. probably not

but it could be a fun semi-competitive or counter meta combo. I could see grav bikes, grav centurions, a few tac squads with lasbacks and a drop pod melta sternguard group doing quite well to support harlies. space marines are the can openers, harlies get at the creamy filling

Get like two squads of Tac marines and a squad of stern guard, put them in pods. Give them melta guns and melts bombs, maybe a combi on the sarge.

Use a masque detachment for the Quins. Two units of 6 and 1 unit of five. Each squad is split between embraces and caresses (3 of each, with the troupe master equipped with a caress as well). For the one unit of five, you can cut one embrace trooper and give the master cegorah's rose if you want. Each squad also has a starweaver for a DT. This setup comes to about 660 points. Then add your obligatory void weaver, two units of stock skyweavers for grabbing objectives, and a shadowseer with a haywire grenade. The seer joins the 5 man unit in its starweaver at deployment.

Basically, what you want to do is drop the marines in your opponent's DZ and pop their transports. This will probably lock them in their DZ while they deal with the marines, giving the harlies plenty of time to cross the board.
